  1. I have a 1/2 in barrel swivel knife for sale or trade. It has a 1/2 in blade to go with it. Clay Miller yoke with german precision bearings. Barrel was made in CA. This knife is so incredibly smooth, it's just way too big for my small hands! I will cover shipping to continental 48. Asking $120 or trade.
  2. I can't even begin to say how happy I am that these dang things are done! They are going to Miss Rodeo Oklahoma 2017 to wear at the 2018 MRO Pageant in a week or so. She originally sent me a pair of booties that I deconstructed then built back up. This was the end result. I can't say that I'm itching to do another pair anytime soon! lol!
  3. I work for a distribution company specializing in HVAC and plumbing! My husband runs cattle so on the weekends Im just about anything he needs me to be, one day it may be fence fixer, next day may be calving helper! I squeeze in leatherwork when I get home from my 8-5 and when I can escape on the weekends!
  4. I emailed info@cowboysew.com and they were able to hook me up with someone close to me! That way you can either email or call them and talk out everything! I think Cobras are super nice machines but they are a bit out of my price range! Im gonna be stretching to get the 3200!
  5. They didn't put a phone number on the add so you will have to email them via the posting on craigslist.
  6. I know its a little further than you said but I found a listing yesterday for an Adler 30-5 Treadle Machine in Winfield, KS on Craigslist. They were asking $550, OBO I believe
  7. @Clintock this was my most recent piece (finished them yesterday). Watching and buying Don Gonzales patterns (which all of these are) have helped me a TON honestly, the way he tools is similar to the way I tool so it made it so much easier for me to understand some errors I was making. I've got by with Craft Tool stamps and have done just fine, I usually buy them from Springfield Leather, they are a bit more affordable and you can get wholesale pricing.I probably don't use all the tools that are "required" for Sheridan, but you learn to tailor something as your tooling to the way you like it. Like someone mentioned earlier, Barry King has some awesome sets you can buy for a pretty good discount. I have the "Leather Secrets" book by F.O. Baird and it has helped a lot too, as well as, an Al Stohlman book. It also helped tooling a simple flower over and over and over to really get a feel how it was supposed to flow and connect to the vines. I still have a TON of trouble drawing my own patterns, so I buy a lot of patterns and piece them together with others, I think if you can figure out how to draw your own, you'll be moving up in the game for sure. I always try to tool a small practice piece before I start on work for the evening. It helps me to just piddle around and have some fun for a bit so my mind isn't wound up about the way something should look.
  8. I've been using my BK for about 3 years now and honestly I love it. I started with a Tandy CraftTool then upgraded after a few years. I have small hands and I use the 3/8" comfortably. I do have to sharpen and strop quite a bit, but usually a few passes on my block and its good to go. I use it daily for at least a few hours at a time, the checking on the barrel sometime chews my fingers but I put some med tape around it and it's good to go. I haven't had any problems with it and honestly would recommend it to anyone wanting to transition!
  9. Thank you very much! Ill be glad when I can order one and get rid of my little Singer!
  10. That's what Im leaning towards, reading your post over the general information of sewing machines really helped me come to a decision quickly on what I needed! I'd rather just bite the bullet and buy a machine that is capable of sewing way more than I need just in case. I'd rather have it and not need it than vice versa. I just didnt want to buy a machine that was WAY more than I needed.
  11. My goodness. Alrighty, I really only have a couple questions if you dont mind answering! I do a lot of small projects and the most I will ever use is a triple layer of 8/9oz. I am looking at the CB2500 and the CB3200. Whats your suggestion for the best machine for me? I think the 2500 would be fine but Im worried about the feed teeth making marks on the bottom. Also, are these machines easy to use? This will be my first big machine with a motor and I just want to get all the information that I can!
  12. Does anyone know of any Cowboy Machine dealers near NE OK or Kansas? Id like to maybe see a machine and actually talk to someone before I buy.
  13. I guess Im looking between the CB3200, CB2500, Techsew 3850 and they Techsew 3650HD.
  14. Thank you! I wont be doing anything heavy like saddles. What is your opinion on the Techsew 0302 or the Techsew 3650HD? Im beginning to think the above machines may be just too big for what I need but Im also waffling with the face that it will probably be better to have it and not need it than not have it and do need it!
  15. You are just a plethora of information! This is exactly the type of info I was looking for! I do think I am going to wait until I can at least double my budget and just trudge along with my little machine for the time being. When I purchase a big machine I just want to do it once instead of keep buying and selling and upgrading!
  16. Hello all! I am needing to upgrade my sewing machine. I currently have a Singer 185K hand crank. This little machine has been a power house for me, but I am starting to sew a bit heavier material as well as layers. I make mainly belts, wallets, portfolios, bible covers, ect. I usually use 8/9oz leather. My layers usually are anywhere from 1/2in to 3/4in. My budget isnt huge, maybe $850 max. I have heard good things about Juki and Adler. Im not opposed to off brand machines as long as they can be worked on and will actually do what I need them to. Anyone have insight on different machines?
  17. Dang. Ill upgrade to a big machine eventually but I've been really impressed by this little machine. Its honestly sewn anything I've put under it. Any suggestions where I can find a replacement foot? I need one that will raise a bit higher than what I have.
  18. Hey Everyone! I am currently sewing with a Singer 185K hand crank, which is perfect for what I do at the moment! I've tried doing some research but I haven't had much luck with it! Im currently using a #69 Nylon thread to sew with but I would like to bump up the weight. Does anyone know what this guy can handle before I order some? Im also using the Universal Heavy Duty Singer needles from WalMart because I haven't found anymore either. (I don't really have any sew or leather shops near me) I mainly need to see if you guys have knowledge of the thread and what type of heavier needles I can get. I also need another foot so I can sew a little thicker.
