Double U Leather

I took Bob's advice on lettering quite a while back, and it completely changed the finished look on lettered items. On very rare occasions, I have still had to use the stamps, but every time I hate them. My vote is for not using them if at all possible.

Bruce, Thanks for the input. I guess I never really thought either way about the flowers growing up or down the cheeks. Now that I think of it, I think I'd prefer 'em to go up since a flower growing down might be dead....LOL. I might try havin' 'em go the other direction on the next one just to see. I see what you're getting at on the square corners at the bit end. A rounded or chipped off corner would look a whole lot better. I'm filing that bit of info away for the next one. Thanks for the pointer. I appreciate your comments. I view you as one of the masters around here. You do awesome work, and you're a good guy. Thanks again.

Here's the latest off the bench at Double U. It's for a reiner who is going to use it for checks, credit cards, and a basic daytimer. As always, I learned some things that I'll do a bit different on the next one. Let me know what ya'll think of it. Here's the next item churned out. They're checkbook covers to be given away as awards for a calf roping/tying series. I hope the producer of the event likes 'em. They turned out pretty nice I think. Dadgum....this thread is really going to pot. Earler today, I thought my brain was getting plugged up, but it's now back to thinking regular....I guess it all depends on how you look at things.

Cogs...that last little bit just about wiped me out. Do you just sit there all day thinking of these things? Well, I'd add more, but right now I gotta run and take care of some business.

Thanks for the compliments.....Ouch, for the finish and antique, I simply applied a very light coat of olive oil, neatlac, mahogany antique, and then TanKot. Cogs....Good puns are always appreciated. Sometimes I wonder if society has gotten so "dumbed down" that no one can think that quick. Either that, or they just can't decide whether to _ _ _ _ or get off of the pot! Be blessed.

Here's the latest. I made this for a silent auction item for our youth group at church. Ironically enough, the silent auction will take place during a chili cook off!! I didn't even think about what I was making until after it was cut. I did have to change my idea for the silouhette though. At first, I was going to do the silouhette of the cowboy praying at the cross. Then it kinda dawned on me with the whole chili supper thing, plus the old saying of "praying to the porcelain god", that maybe that wouldn't be such a brilliant idea...LOL. Mad....I don't know if you're trying to cut the outside border as well as the inside border, but for the inside, definitely get a beader blade. Beader blades are simply blades that fit in your swivel knife and are basically two blades that carve at once. I got my beader blade from Barry King, and it works awesome. There's other makers that make beaders blades also. For the outside, if you're not cutting that border, a stitch groover should work fine. Make one pass the width you want, then figure out the distance between the next line, adjust the stitch groover and make the second line. I'm thinking a beader blade will be your answer though.

I still am not where I want to be compared to some other leather masters around here, but I feel like I might be headed in the right direction. Chancey....thank you for the comments about re-doing this lid. My integrity is something I value alot, and to me is worth far more than profit. Here's another item out of the shop. It's a floral tooled, one ear headstall that's a birthday present for a call roper in TX. It's the second headstall like this I've made. The other one was black dyed background for a blue roan horse, this one is brown dyed background and edges for a bay horse. Can't wait to see how it looks on the horse. I also learned a little on this one, and will have a little better design idea for the next one. As always, let me know what you think. Be blessed.

Here's a rope can cover for a high school kid in Colorado. It turned out really slick....second time around!! First time, I had some dye/rub off issues and decided I'd just make it again. I'm kinda particular about sending stuff out that has my name on it and having it not look quite right. I know the kid would have been thrilled with the first one, but he's gonna mess himself with this one I think. Anyway, let me know what ya'll think of it. Here pretty soon, I'm gonna be looking into changing my name on here to coincide with a new website I'm getting made....woohoo!! May God richly bless each of you.

Here's my two cents on Springfield Leather. I've ordered lots of times from them, and have had nothing but good luck with them. Their products are good, very reasonably priced, and their staff is extremely friendly. I just got through with a project that I had to order leather from them. After a miscalculation on my part, they were even willing to take back the leather that I had ordered that wouldn't work. And, we're talking about a piece that was cut to size for my project. SL will be getting my $$ for a long time. I've even turned some of my friends onto them as well, and they love SL.
