  1. I don't know about tooling dyed leather, don't use it. Not sure how you will hi-lite with the same color if it is already dyed. No experiance working with it and not really interested in byeing a large piece of dyed leather for a 4" x 24" piece I need for a collar. I also like the way you can still see the original leather color through the dye, just a pink hue. Not saying what you like is wrong, just not what I am looking for. Mark
  2. One coat, another coat will mess with the first coat, taking some off, unless you wipe it clean with a damp cloth and start over. The ecoflo stuff is water based and most will wipe off if you use a wet cloth. BTW, thanks for the compliments and you are welcome. Mark

  8. That is what I used, put it on heavy with a paper towel, let it puddle in the the stamped area and wipe it down with a damp towel on the remainder to remove excess, the more you wipe the more you will remove. Seal with Resolene cut 50/50 with water, if you brush the Resolene on it will remove more hi-lite so be careful. Try it on a scrap piece first. I also clean my leather with oxalic acid (wood bleach) before applying finish, seems to help. Mark

  16. Completed another collar for a friends Bulldog, 23" neck and 48" lead, 10 oz leather for main collar and lined with 2 oz doubled over. I used Eco-flo medium brown gel antique on the outer portion and left the lining natural with mink oil treatment.
  17. Thanks for the complments. Actually the center D ring is for the short lead so the name stays centered while walking him. Not a lot of work but all the steps take several days to complete.
  18. Some Art stores sell scalpels also. The one I go to (Utrecht) keeps them behind the counter so you have to ask for them.

  20. I was inspired by seeing the work of others in this topic so I made this collar and lead for my son's boxer. It is 10oz leather on the main collar and lead and lined with 2oz. I used eco-flo tan gel antique on the outer portion and left the lining natural with mink oil treatment. The collar fits a 16-1/2" neck and the lead is 24" long, all the hardware is from Tandy. Open to any and all critique.
