Hi Folks, i bought this Old Singer 29-4 treadle machine, of course i didn't get the treadle i just got the machine! The plate that covers the bobbin and shuttle cock, there are several of what I call the double spoon, that fit the later 29's, but mine looks like a small spoon flatten, if anyone knows of a place I might look or has one please give me a shout! I also would like the treadle, but most likely, I will have to make one! If I can't find the parts to make a treadle machine, I will have to look for a power house motor that I can run on a foot control to control the speed. I will be great full any advice or help, I am going to call singer tomorrow and order neddles for the 17-23, and ask them if they have that cover Ha Ha Wish me luck! Greg

Good evenings Guys & Gals, I have looked and looked, I have called a couple Singer Places with out any luck of locating a needle for my machine (Singer 17-23) there has been some very helpfull people on here, I think I have came to the conclusion, that I need a pack of needle size 100no.16x2 in a 24 or 25 First off, i do not want anyone to go out of there way. I am asking this, just in case some member here lives by or goes buy a Large sewing Machine supply store. If there was someone, that this fits, the person might ask the clerk if the info I gave you is correct! I live in the middle of know where!! You can go over to Cas City (leather forum) and check me out,(Ace Lungger) I am a good person, and have not, and will not ever cheat anyone! If it would of come with a needle I would know excatly what needle that it does take. I will be great full, for any and all help! I thank those that helped me get this far, in my other post! Thanks greg

5 shot, Thanks for telling me about the thread! I don't have a needle yet, I did clean it up and got a new belt. I have tha manual, and if you go to the second page it says except 17-22, 17-23, 17-25,, 17-31 and 17-33. I have no idea if it will sew what I want, I know with just a regural needle for a singer 66, it will poke right threw the leather but, it won't pick up the bobbin thread> Maybe when I get a neddle it will?? Thank you so much!! Greg

Hi Folks, I hate to be so dumb that I have to ask so many questions? First off I call the guy that someone told me to. Real nice man, told me that the 17-23 was a sweet machine, and after practice you can write your name with it! I know nothing about industrial machines! I was told it took a 16-2 whatever needle? (What does that mean) it says to you 4 cord left hand twist thread, okay I understand that, But what size thead do I need? I was looking threw Springfield leather cat. and they show 138,207,277,and a 346. I don't have a clue what to buy??? If anyone would give me some info, what to buy to get it running I would be very great full! I can sew with my Singer 66 and my 99, but I am lost! I would be great full! Thanks Greg
-
Thanks Steve, I have been there, and when you go to the second page, where it shows the machines, it says except for the 17-22, 17-23, 25, and some others. And I do thank you!! I just hope I get some good out of it? I got sucked in, when people were (and still are) claims that the 66 &99 are leather sewing machines, they will sew 3-4oz, nothing heavier! I am still looking for advice! Thanks ACE

Brent that Cool, It is nice when I person can hit a lick once in a while!! I was at a garage sale 2 years ago, and I had went there because the person advertised reloading stuff, i needed a lead pot, he had a monster, but it was a bullet making machine, i made a good deal on it, and soon as I got it home, the thermostat went out! So I went to the company to order a new one, $50.00, then I saw they sold new for $1250.00, I had a heart attack, I only told a couple people about it, and everyone wanted to buy it! Then a man came a long and made me a offer I couldn't turn down! I hope you make a ton!! Greg

Allen, You did a great job! I am fairly new to leather working and , when I traded for a starter set, i made some stamps, so I would have a varitey. I still use some of my tools, and they are fun yo make. Yes, there are some guys on here that have the equipment and the talnet to make some very nice stamps! And I wished I had that, but I don't! Keep up the good work! Greg

Badger, are you using you Midas knife? What size of barrel does it have? I just started carving, and in my tool trading and buying, I ended up with a Midas Swivil knife with the small barrel, I realy like it, but If I could find one with the bigger barrel, I would like to get muy hands on one! I have a few Midas Stamps, they don't seem to have a deep relief, but are well made tools! Later Greg
