I've been really into making some smaller pocket sized items lately. Mainly to get rid of some scrap but also they can be made up in a couple hours and not several like my bags. I'm really loving these little card wallets and my fans seem to like them too! Anyway, here's the latest. Dyed a nice brown, sponge antiqued, hand stitched with waxed nylon. Enjoy! Andy

Bi-Fold Card Wallet
AndyL1 replied to AndyL1's topic in Purses, Wallets, Belts and Miscellaneous Pocket Items
Thanks! Yeah this antiquing on the mahogany is my favorite. Not sure if the photos do it justice. Haha! Nom nom. Thanks on both! Thanks! Yep, it's all in the details right? -
Bi-Fold Card Wallet

Thank you sir! Thanks! My first little wallet and I think it came out great. (actually the third one I made, the first two were a learning process to say the least. Haha!) Thanks Phil! I like my new name a lot, and I had to keep my logo with the arm of course! And here is a photo of another one I made in a antiqued mahogany, complete with stitching on the strap. Andy Sorry, forgot to attach the file! -
Bi-Fold Card Wallet

Thanks! Logo came out nice. Had Jeff at Grey Ghost graphics make another stamp for me too. Thanks Mike! Yeah I made a second one last night where the strap curves to a point like I do my little billets on my bags. Did the point on both ends of the strap and stitched it. It looks A LOT better. A very finished looking piece. I'll post some new photos up when I get a chance. Glad you like the name too! It's something I've been wanting to do for a while... I do like ARM as it's my initials but it always sounded too industrial for my style of leatherwork. I have a website in the works at www.blackthornleather.com too. Stay tuned! -
Hey all, I've been trying to come up with something cool to make with the ever growing pile of scraps I have. So, wallets! I think this one is cool. Just a simple card wallet made from leftover 4/5 veg tan. A nice compact, slim design and a strap with a snap to keep things secure. Future wallets will have stitching detail on the strap as it looks a bit unfinished without it. Also, check out my new logo! Decided to go for a change in name on my little hobby/biz. I've always wanted a name that really evokes the style of leatherwork that I like: old world inspired. I've had this name for a couple of years... just decided now would be a good time to start using it. Comments and critiques appreciated. Thanks all! Carving Font - Especially Small & Detailed
AndyL1 replied to bissetdesign's topic in How Do I Do That?
Ahhh I see. I don't see any reason why that couldn't work for cutting tiny lines. I've had good luck with the fixed blade as I just use the very tip, but that swivel looks even more useful. -
Leatherburnishers.com ... Anyone Have Their Tools?
AndyL1 replied to RoosterShooter's topic in Leather Tools
I ordered mine last week. He said he was getting ready for a show and vacation so the order may take a little longer than usual. No problem for me... I'm not in a hurry either. -

I've not had any experience of the X-Acto knife Andy, although I have seen them around on the internet, do you use the swivel model? I wasn't aware they had a swivel model. I just use the standard one. Give one a shot... just cut lightly. -

I've used an X-Acto on serifs and small inner shapes. I should add I use it CAREFULLY so as not to cut through the leather. Follow it up with a small beveler and backgrounder. Andy -
17" Macbook Bag

Thanks! Nice! yeah, a quite comfy home! HAHA! Thanks! Executive armor... like it! ;-) Thanks! -
Got another one done! Came out great but I have to say as much as I like this color, I really want someone to order one up in brown or black. Four in a row now and I dream of antique mahogany. Haha! ;-) Anyway, have a look! Cheers, Andy

Thanks man! I think I'm getting into a good groove on my bags. I have two more to make right now at the same time, so they seem to definitely be getting some notice.

Hey all, Finally got this one done and out the door. Made to fit a 15" Mac Book but also a custom sized interior pocket to hold a small 9mm firearm in a holster. The inner pocket has snaps on the flap to keep the weapon secure. Kind of an odd request for me... never had someone ask for a gun pocket! Lol! Anyway, 6/7oz veg tan with a 5/6 gusset. Dyed with the Tandy Waterstain in Bordeaux (starting to like this stuff actually). Sponge antiqued, neatsfoot oil, then Resolene to finish. Came out really nice! I hope he likes it. My next project has got to be making a photo lightbox. These flash shots are not doing my work justice. Ugh. Cheers, Andy

Double Compartment Laptop Bag
AndyL1 replied to AndyL1's topic in Purses, Wallets, Belts and Miscellaneous Pocket Items
Wow! Thanks for the praise! Yes, the back main compartment is for his laptop, while the front with the two inner pockets could be for papers, magazines, whatever. I built this to my clients laptop specs so it fits it perfectly. They are for sale on a commission basis, $575 for this one in particular. Thanks! The latches are very easy to use, just a standard "cigar box" style swing lock. Thanks Bob! Keep at it, love to see your work! -
Got some better images done of my latest bag. I didn't want it to get lost within the original thread so I thought I'd start a new one. Anyway, here's what the inside and back looks like, Tooled initials on the back panel. The two inner pockets have flaps on them while a larger inner pocket is just open and perfect for an iPad. Thanks! Andy

Nice job! Your tooling is so smooth and even it looks like a machine stamped it! Good job! Cant go wrong with black and red, strong color combo. Thanks for sharing! Andy

Good tip there Tina. I may try that! I clamp down my straight edge to but find I still press hard on it to keep it from moving. Rubber sounds like a good idea! Andy

Double Compartment Laptop Bag
AndyL1 replied to AndyL1's topic in Purses, Wallets, Belts and Miscellaneous Pocket Items
Thanks everybody! This one was a lot of fun to make. The two compartments was a challenge and it turned out well. For the antiquing i just did my usual sponge effect with a bit of Tandy's black all-in-one. I spread a little out on a paper plate fairly thin, pick up a bit in a damp sponge and pat the edges. I do it lightly and build up the color so it really has some depth in texture. Seal it and done! More pics later... Left my memory card at work. Darn it! Andy -
Hey all, Got this monster of a job finally done! Double compartments with a center divider panel. 5-6oz veg tan all around (side gussets I did in 4oz). Came out pretty amazing I think! Also, I dyed it with the new Tandy WaterStain in bordeaux. I have to say I was rather impressed with how this stuff went on and finished. So far no color rub off at all. Curious to see how it holds up with use. Does anyone else have some long-term feedback on the Waterstains? I finished with a nice coat of Resolene and some neatsfoot oil. I have more photos that I will post up soon. Got this done late last night. Cheers, Andy
