  1. Hello everyone, I hope everybody in the forum is doing fine and having a good day. A little while back I too recieved a package in the mail. Regis sent me the most beautiful checkbook cover that I've ever seen. The reason I haven't posted before now is I was wanting to send a picture of it, but I'm having some sort of problem with adding pictures to anywhere. When my daughter has some time off work and can get down here she's gonna help me figure it out, I hope. One other thing that is maybe not PIF, but maybe it is, I wanted to add this. Some time back Smilin Jim came up with the idea and plans for a lace cutter and beveler. He offered to send them to some people if they let him know. Well I did and he did, he sent me a set. I'm right handed and have nerve damage from diabetes, mostly no feeling in my right hand and my feet. I haven't really ever tried to cut much lace, as I couldn't hold the other things very well. The one that Jim makes is a whole nother ball game I've been using it some and it works really well, plus is't easy to set up, change blades, and everything else. Jim I wanted to thank you publickly for the cutter and the beveler. You were good enouth to offer it to us opoenly and I wanted to thank you openly, as it has sure been a help to me. Bye for now everyone and sincerely hope everyone has a nice evening, with kindest regards Billy P
  2. Just to ask a question, and not meaning to be a downer, has anybody experienced someone trying to get the five finger discount while set up at an event/fair/show? When things are hanging out front and if you get busy with another customer or at the other end of your booth doing something, seems it would be easy for a crooked butt hole to try and steal your work. I know at the flea markets/jockey lots around here some of the vendors say that it happens. Some say often enough that they have been taking someone with them to just help keep a eye on things. It's a sad thing that people will steal your stuff and take your little bit of profit if they get a chance. If I catch somebody stealing from me the cops will probably get me too, because I'm gonna be wailing on there ass. Just my .02 and a question. Anyway something to think about and maybe come up with someway to attach things to make it harder for a thief get away with. Billy P
  3. Hey Kathy, the second one is every bit as cute as the first one. A poot is what we call a fart in mixed company, down here in my section of the South. Billy P
  4. Hey Kathy/YakLady, I don't know the first thing about Yak's, and really not much about cattle, sheep, or goats either. I must say though that your baby Yak is cuter than a Fat Babies Poot. If it would stay that size I'd look for one for me to keep as a pet. Billy P
  5. Hi Crystal, I haven't been on the forum much lately, at least not in person. I usually stay loggeg on about all the time and look at it several times a day. I've been in the hospital and having a time with my diabetes. I just saw your question and over the years I've done a few snake skins. I always staple mine flesh side up, and put plain table salt on the flesh side pretty heavy. put it up in a dry place and after a couple of days wipe the salt off and reapply. After another couple of days get the salt off and wash with really mild soapy warm water, to get all the salt off. Some of the old timers used to tell to put 50/50 mixture of alcohol and glycerin, but I've sense found out that this is not the best way to do it. It works but not really good I've said a lot to tell you while there are some other things that can be done the best is like was said get the Rep-Tan kit from tandy and just follow the directions, let up know how it turns out. If I can get some skins this year I'm gonna order the Tandy stuff and try it myself. Regards Billy P
  6. Hey Clay, I'm not too good with these computers and doing stuff like enlarging things, so could you possibly put a picture of the June pattern up that will be/print out bigger. Thanks a lot Billy P
  7. Hey Marlon, that is a good looking piece of work you have there. I wish I could draw like that, but I've been wishing that about my whole life. You really did a fantastic job on every bit of it. Thanks for sharing with it with us, as I and I'm sure everybody else in the forum enjoy seeing good work like yours. Regards Billy P
  8. I love to fish, for bream and largemouth bass. I used to fish alot of bass tournements was actually pretty good at it. The last tourny, I fished I won over $400, our Bass Club at work. Some of those guys were fishng Fishers of Men tour, some the Redman Trail, so I felt i did pretty good, usually consistant in the money. Ialso like to grow Tomatoes and hot Pepper. I don't eat very much hot stuff, but like to grow it to give to people around here who do like it. The last couple of years due to health issues I haven't been able to fish as much or work the land in my garden spot like it needs. Diabetes, 2 Heart attacks, nerve damage from the diabetes, and Pulmonary Fibrosis (COPD), on Oxygen, LOL, it's hard to run a tiller while dragging a oxygen tank. It makes me get the rows crooked. I still go fishing with one of my friends sometimes, but he works and my wife won't let me go bye myself anymore. Billy Perdue
  9. I listen to a bunch of different stuff. I like a lot/ mostly the old rock hard and soft. I was born country, grew up rock and roll hippie, and loved it all. I like everything from Boz Scaggs to Ricky Scaggs, Charlie Daniels to The New York Dolls, Alice Cooper, Kiss, Glen Campbell, Ann Murray, Charlie Pride, Merle Haggard, Golden Earring, Boston, really loved Bob Segar and the Silver Bullit Band, plus like some classical and Kenny G. I, like probably a lot of you download what I want and make my own CD's. I just grab a handful, stick them in and let it go, as long as it is semi loud, too loud and the wife starts complaining that she can't hear the TV, LOL. I'm trying to find I'll get you yet you little bugger you, by the Nose Pickers, If you hear it anywhere let me know. When I'm tooling I have to have something with a beat, as it helps my rythum, especially when beveling or backgrounding something. The music just helps me get it smoother. Billy P
  10. Hey Billy, glad to know that you are back. I/we/everybody who has ever seen your work are grateful that you're here. You will be much in our prayers. Take care of yourself, an if there is ever anything we can do just let us know. Billy P
  11. Hi Hilly, that is a beautiful piece of work. I'd bet that you get some orders for some stuff after you husbands buddies see that. Great work and keep going, looks like you're gonna be one of the great one's in leather carving. Billy P
  12. I'll try and give it a go this time, too. Might be fun, just let me know what to do. Billy P
  13. I was/am a member of the ######, and had been on there with Johanna and Dave over in Nashville, Tenn., among others, When Leatherworker.net was first started I got a personal email telling me about it and an invitation to check it out. I did and it was one of the best moves I've ever made since I began in my leather working hobby/passion. We have the best of the best leatherworkers in the world as members. In my case anyway, since I'm on SS Disability and don't have the money I used to, this is a big help. I can't really afford to go to classes, and if I could they don't have them any where near me. While pictures and typed explanations may not be the same as having someone there, it sure is a big help. I've really learned alot and can see improvement in my work, and I'm sure that almost everybody else has too. I want to add from me a special thanks to Johanna, Bruce Johnson, ClayB, and Smilin Jim, for you four, especially, have helped me out as no one else ever has, since I started working with leather. Plus a big thanks to everyone one else for the replys to questions and for giving me and others ideas and something to work towards. Again thanks to everyone, Billy P
  14. I'll give it chance. I've been calling what I do SideLine Leather Co. almost since I started with leather. I would appreciate a LOGO for letterhead and business cards. Just let me know what you need, and thanks a heap, Billy P
  15. Clay B., if you ever make it to South Carolina, you can sleep in my spare bedroom and smell the leather, as that is where I do what little work I'm able to do at. We'll even feed you so that you can keep up your strength to try and teach me some things. I don't have the talent that a lot of people have, but it sure is fun trying to do something with a piece of leather. Regards Billy P
  16. Hey Jim. with work that good looking, no wonder you're smiling. Very nice and thanks for showing it to us. Billy P

    HIDECRAFTERS

Hey everybody, hope this finds everyone well and in good spirits. Now a question, does anyone know if the new owners of Hidecrafters has come out with a new catalog yet? If not, has anybody heard when they might issue one? Just curious and looking forward to the day that it does come out. Thanks a lot, and everyone have a good evening. Later Billy P

  20. Hey everyone, I've got a question that I hope Sharpshooter can answer for me. Since you help host a show with Bark River I have a question about one of their knives? I have a knife that belongs to a friend made by Bark River, he wanted me to cut down the case so that he can get a better grip on the knife when he takes it out of the case. The case is nice and I don't see where cutting it down is gonna help his problem. He is assistant solicitor down here and shet sponser a couple of youth groups and take them on canoe trips down the Pee Dee River, and I believe that they camp for a night on an island. He takes this knife and told me that he has almost lost it 2 or 3 times when he was around the water and trying to get it out of the case for something. The handle on this knife is some kind of hard, plastic type stuff really don't know what the material is, but it is as slick as if had been oiled with machine oil. And no it hasn't been, it's just the material. If you can think of what it is and what we/I could do to help him with this problem we both would appreciate it a lot. Other than the handle being too slick to hold on to it is a fine knife. I have only handle it with dry hand and can really imagine that it would be a monster to hold on to when they are wet. Anyway thanks for any help. Regards Billy P
  21. Mr. Baird, was a great artist and leather carver. He was one of the first people to try and get the early saddle makers to share carving patterns and saddle making ideas. He knew that without sharing that the art wold eventually die out. He got kind of upset with the people out west and went down into Mexico and hooked up with some Mexican artist and began sharing ideas and then came back to the U.S. and started doing some books and having them published so that others could use them. He had at least 3 books published Leather Secrets, Design Artistry, and Leather Art. I read some stuff about him a while back, but this is about all I can remember. Billy P I believe that he worked at Porters, and other shops from Cal. to Mexico, to maybe Arizona or New Mexico.
  22. Hey Marlon you might want to check out Zack white Leather Co., if you haven't already. They have some odd, off the wall, hard to find stuff sometimes. If you don't see it in the on-line catalog call the 800# and ask them at the store if they have something you need. Their website is www.zackwhite.com Later Billy P
  23. Great work Jim, and I'm glad to see you back and posting pics. I'll get with you later. Billy P
  24. Damn nice work, Jeffzilla, hope to do as well myself one of these days, LOL. If I live long enough. Billy P
  25. I usually order over the phone and while she is hard to understand, she has gotten my orders right so far. The Crafttool type carving stamps they sell are Ivan from Tiawan. Maybe not the best but the ones that I have have been pretty good so far. Later Billy P
