I’m pretty sure some will think this is a stupid simple question, but, I’ve run out of ideas. I want to carve letters and the only way I can think of to get consistent style, size and spacing is to print them out from a computer and then transfer them, does everyone do it that way? Is there a better way or stencils available?

I am just getting into antique leather restoration, etc. and I have a problem. I have a nice "motorcycle" or "western" belt from the 1940s and at some point it lost it's name, which was "FORTUNE" in what would have been yellow brass or chromed brass letters. I have been searching all over the web for alphabet spots but those currently available are not of the right design or size to reproduce the name. Ace Western Belts in Japan appears to reproduce these, but the cost is high and I am not sure the size is right. The original letters were 7/16" tall, or nearly half an inch. Communication with these folks is not easy because of the language barrier. So, does anyone have any letters I could buy that I could use to finish this belt? The photo of the actual belt shows other losses which I have fixed, but so far I cannot get those letters! I am also looking at restoration of this type to be an ongoing effort, so I am also looking for a source of vintage spots and jewels for future projects. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks in advance for your help!!!

Hello friends - I'm tapping into the vast wealth of knowledge here to ask a few questions. I have a 3/4" Craftool alphabet that looks like woodgrain or stacked logs, part number 8138. Does anyone know if Craftool ever made their woodgrain alphabet of the same in 1/2" format? If so, what was that part number? I'd like to see about maybe finding one. Second question - is there a database sowewhere of old craftool part numbers? Not looking for the tooling stamp references, but things like setters, alphabets, etc. Thanks friends! PepeUnidos

Hello, I am trying to find some info about a customized alphabet set that I can use to stamp with an arbor press. I really want to be able to put initials on my leather but cant find where to get the whole set up - I want a hand press, not a burning iron. Any ideas who makes these things and are these alphabet sets usable with arbor presses? Thank you! M.

I am selling a brass Alphabet stamp set. It comes with everything in the photos. I paid $455 for this set. Stamp maker is Hex N Hit to verify pricing. Stamps are 1/4" and in Cambria font. Set comes with 3 holders, 1 1/4"(perfect for initials), 2 7/8" & 7 7/8". Set has one pounding handle (unused) and one soldering gun insert (unused). The soldering Gun insert fits a Weller Medium Duty Soldering iron and attaches to the small and medium holder to heat up the stamps. It does NOT attach to the large holder. $225 PayPal, Friends and Family (or you pay fees for Goods & Services). Free Priority Shipping. Thanks for looking.

hi guys, for a while i have been looking for a nice set of alphabet stamps for leatherwork. most of the sets i have seen are very huge (3/4" is smallest i have seen) and frankly pretty ugly; the font types are terrible. the other day i came across these stamps on etsy: https://www.etsy.com/ca/listing/164192944/canterbury-uppercase-alphabet-kit-6-mm they are not designed for leather but rather for stamping some softer metals. just wondering if anyone has tried them on leather before? no doubt they will leave an impression/mark but just want to know if the results were considered 'satisfactory' by someone else who may have tried already. thanks a lot, braden
