I was wondering if anybody here from the San Francisco area has any recommendations for craft fairs or trade shows in the area. I'm not looking for fetish or that kind of fair, just places where leather art is displayed, sold, etc.

Hello, leather community. After years of longing to make leather goods I finally decided to pull the trigger, buy the tools and make my wife a purse for Christmas. I’ve been a chromatography engineer in the pharmaceutical industry for the last 11 years w aspirations to make it as an oil painter. Picked up a bunch of books on leather working and tooling. So far I’ve only made a head knife sheath from scratch and am moving on to the purse. Leather working is much more complex than I anticipated, which is a turn on for me I didn’t expect. Below are some of my paintings and the sheath. Look forward to getting to know you all. Ps. I also make custom made slingshots. If there are any shooters, please hit me up! Wish you all a great Sunday www.faraciart.com

Hi all Has anyone ever tried adding something to pro dye to make it thicker so it would be easier to 'paint' / apply it to carved leather designs? The reason I ask is that I hate using leather paints as they reduce the life of the leather when they crack etc. I'm surprised fiebings or someone hasn't come up with a product like this yet??

I have to post this piece of art for a good friend Karen Conover in south central Va. She has no idea that this is being shown. She was handed one piece of black and gold material and asked to creat a piece of fiber art, and that she did, this beautiful Quilt / Wall Hanging sewing machine is amazing! I thought my friends on this board could appreciate it. What a talented artist this lady is... George Doyle Unionlevelleather.com

After my family dog passed away I made a portrait on leather and fashioned it to a wood back. -

This is a commissioned piece. Made for Prince Edward, Duke of Wessex. A lover and supporter of the Arts. It represents the animals one can find here, in the North of England. The inside depicts two flags, the first, the Dukes 'Standard', the second, the flag of 'Northumberland'. The Journal is approximately 500mm x 345mm and took a month to create from Design drawings to finished piece. -

'Blossoms Crop' is the darkest of all my new colour palette backgrounds and I think the most successful. The deep Prussian blue helps high-lite the foreground design. -
hello All! My name is Mark Rowney. I have been working and carving leather for 25 years now. I am self taught and still learning. I am passionate about Contemporary rural Art and endeavour to combine my enthusiasm for leather work and evoke my love of nature. I primarily make bespoke leather journal covers and some other original and one-off items. I also paint and sell enough to enable me to buy new hides, JUST! I live and work in the Durham dales, Northern England. My influences are the Bees that sting me, the Midges that bite me and the birds that sing so sweetly. My goal is to understand my soul that I may best illustrate a wonderful life spent in the high meadows and hay fields that surround our old stone farmhouse. I look forward to meeting and hearing from the fellow leather workers that share this imaginative site. As William Morris said...."One should only own what is truly useful or beautiful". I hope you find enjoyment in my work. http://www.rowneyart.com http://rowneyart.blogspot.com

I am trying to cut down the amount of hours spent carving/tooling on each Journal, yet hopefully keeping the design strong. This I hope will make the journals more affordable and salable! -

I am trying to use a varied colour palette in my new speculative journals. I have used the 'Horse Chestnut' and its fruit to depict Autumn. -

'What Birds Dream'....This piece is the cover of a book I am writing of the same title. It explores the imaginary dream world of birds. A mix of Leather work and painting, Poetry and prose. The image is the Magpie sleeping under the light of a Bluebell. It is approximately 500mm x 300 mm and took 3 weeks to complete from design to final carving. -

This is my kick starter Project! Check it out and pledge! help make this dream come true! https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/905865110/wolves-leather April of 2013 I quit my construction job and moved to downtown Pittsburgh to officially start my leather working business called “Wolves Leather”. I really enjoy working with my hands where I can create a quality product for everyday use. All of my products are my own design and are all made by hand including the stitching. Everyone benefits from quality products which is why I strive to craft the best leather goods that I can so that they will be used enjoyed for years to come. Today I have my dad's leather coat he wore 40 years ago and I have my grandfather's leather boots he wore 60 years ago. A leather product can be passed on from generation to generation giving it amazing sentimental value, which is priceless.

So, these guys aren't masks, they're wall hangings, but I don't know where else to put them! Masks seemed most appropriate. On the left we have Wilifred. An aquatic dragon, he spent years in the Caribbean, where he lived in a sunken ship. On the right, is Snurg, who guarded an abandoned iron mine and smelter. They're life size, and the only things not leather are the eyes and teeth. I showed them at DragonCon, and they're going to be going with some of my other dragons, to an art gallery showing shortly.
