Been a while since I posted any of my works.. Here is a wallet and keychain I've made for myself it was time to retire my prototype wallet made out of chestnut buttero. New wallet is EPI leather in navy color for the outside and inside is Alran sully in marine color. Stitching is black waxed linen thread at 3.38mm spacing done with French style pricking irons. Edges are sanded then burnished and sanded again with 3/4 coats or vernis edge paint in marine color. thanks for looking !!

Hello! I have a few questions about vegetable tanned goatskins- hopefully someone (or millions of you) might be able to answer. I have never handled vegetable tanned goatskins- is it as durable as cowhide? I'd like to it for a project that will require wet-forming- will it work the same as cowhide in this sense? Or will it shrink? I'm specifically wanting to make a "bush hat", similar to a cowboy hat but simpler. Thanks in advance!

Hello Everyone, Doing a little outreach here... I did just post this in another forum so I apologize for the cross posting... We run a tannery in New York's Hudson Valley named Pergamena Parchments & Leathers. We have been around for a very long time, tanning leather here in the US since around 1840, and going back to 1550 in Germany. We have produced many different kinds of leather throughout our history, but have been producing mainly vegtan for the last 10 years. We do cow hide, as well as goat and calf leather. We do a softer cow leather than Hermann Oak, or Wickett & Craig, but it might be suitable for some applications and we can offer it waxed, etc. I have also seen some of the goat and calf leather producers/sellers mentioned on here so I thought this might be the right place to mention that as well. We also do some deerskin. Again, all vegtan and all domestic hides, mostly from the Northeast US. We supply primarily the bookbinding trade, accessories, and handbags. If someone is also looking to buy craft leathers from Tandy or similar suppliers, we have a good supply of one offs or 2nds that we offer directly on our Etsy shop. www.etsy.com/shop/PergamenaNY You are also welcome to check our website www.pergamena.net or call us at 845.457.3834 If you are seeing this and would like to give us a try we would welcome the sale, and the feedback on the material. As a thank you, you can use the promo code LEATHERWORKER2018 to save %10 on your purchase. Thanks again and I hope we can help you! Jesse Meyer Pergamena Parchments & Leathers

My dh's wallet was falling apart so I decided to try and make a new one. After the discussion about the RFID in cards, I lined the back of the card sections with aluminum tape, then covered with fabric. I really didn't like the way it changed the texture of the leather but hopefully it will work. It only is really noticeable above the ID section. I need to work on the trimming of the binding. I found it really difficult as the goat is pretty stretchy. It also made skiving impossible, at least for me, so the card section is thicker than I would like. I could have used fabric with a leather strip on top for the card slots but wanted to keep the fabric component to a minumum.

The flash is a bit annoying in the pic but I will not have time for this tomorrow. I think I like the 2 colour version better than the single colour ones I did. It certainly changes the whole feel of the piece. Finally finished with Christmas gifts with a little time to spare. Fortunately we did not loose our power as so many around us did or I would have been in BIG trouble.
