Hi there, I love the hardware on this old leather bag I have, but have not been able to find anything similar. Antique drawer pulls were too long, Chicago screws are too small. I'm looking for this size, about 15/16" across, to use as the closure to some new handbags. Any ideas of where I might find this or something similar? It seems like all hardware companies have the same stock.

Here are some pictures of some old saddlebags my friend sent me on Facebook. I don't know anything about them except these pictures. Have any of you seen anything like these before? I would like to create a replica and would like some ideas on the metal work. Anyway, this is my first post in this forum. But i've been lurking quite awhile. Thanks everyone!

I have made a couple of saddle bags using the Tandy pattern, but I had a client ask for insulated saddlebags. When I search for the materials, I can only find manuafactired insulted bags, not the materials themselves. Any suggestions on making this kind of thing and and ideas on where to get the materials?

What is the best type and quality of leather for motorcycle saddlebags, the straps in particular. The original set of Harley-Davidson leather bags and straps lasted over 20 years (250+ thousand miles), but the replacement set of straps that were ordered from a leather shop haven't lasted two years........they're dry and cracked. The straps are pulled taunt from time to time, and the leather is cleaned and treated frequently with H-D products, same as always. Thank you very much for your input.

howdy, y'all, I'm Wulf Zeiler. Some folks in the SCA, Kingdom of Ansteorra (Oklahoma & Texas), know me as THL Bjoulf Jahrnhamr, and I've been a leather crafter, bladesmith, and armorer most of my life. About 7 years ago I moved to Australia and got married, and now I'm starting a small custom leather shop here in Adelaide. In my time, I've done it ALL in leather, from saddlemaking to leather combat armor. You name the tool, i've probably made a case for it. Holsters and scabbards, particularly left handed versions, vests, chaps, wallets, belts, handbags, fetish gear, and many others too numerous to list. I've worked at everything in tooling and embossing from Stohlman-style western traditional to customized Celtic knotwork and zoomorphics. I've made cases for cell phones, Ebook readers, saddle bags, tool rolls, moccasins and sandals of all kinds, you name it, I've probably already made one. If I haven't, gove me the details and specs and I'll give it a try. I'm an old school, 'see it in your head, then make it with your hands' crafter, and there's nothing I won't take a shot at. I was born in America, last lived in Jacksonville, FL, and am now a citizen of Australia.

Just finished a set of saddlebags as a Christmas pressie for my brother who just started riding this year. Learned a lot of lessons about wax waterproofing and edge finishing. Also learned not to use Eco-Flow one step on large surfaces; could not get an even coat, so there are way more streaks and splotches than I would like.

Hey All... They are finally all done now...i found the saddlebags to be daunting at first, but after a good read on here about how somebody made motorcycle saddlebags, they were actually pretty simple...i also used the wet formed bag tutorial on here, but made a clamping jig for the bag instead of nailing around the edge...many thanks to all those who fielded questions along the way...now to address my growing holster backlog...no rest for the wicked...
