The leather soaks up water like veg tan, how can I tell if it is tanned? I got a bit of it wet, it seems more like wet skin than leather, are there any other tests? Judging by the way it soaks up water, if its stiff when it dries, that would imply its veg tanned, right? EDIT: since it is so skin-like when its wet, im just getting some basspro tanning stuff and tanning one of them to test, there is no way this stuff is leather, its like wet raw hide when you get water on it. yup its probably only pickled or maybe even just salted and dried. Good luck and keep us all informed. Quote Worked in a prison for 30 years if I aint shiny every time I comment its no big deal, I just don't wave pompoms. “I won’t be wronged, I won’t be insulted, and I won’t be laid a hand on. I don’t do these things to other people, and I require the same from them.” THE DUKE!

Members aru Posted April 10, 2022 Author Members Report Posted April 10, 2022 my test piece looked much more like leather, less loose and dry. Went ahead and used the tanning solution on all my rugs. Let you guys know in a day or so how they look Quote
Members aru Posted April 12, 2022 Author Members Report Posted April 12, 2022 (edited) the small piece is the before, large is the after. I used the deer hunter and trapper tanning orange bottle stuff. took 2 bottles for 4 sheepskins. It tightened up the grain and gave it a more rigid smooth finish. it definitely was not leather before xd sorry for shit pics Edited April 12, 2022 by aru Quote
CFM tsunkasapa Posted March 7, 2023 CFM Report Posted March 7, 2023 Had you said they were sheepskins to begin with I would have told you there is a 98% probability that they were tanned. 'Fur rugs' generally refers to bear skins, cougars, etc. Quote Hoka Hey! Today, tomorrow, next week, what does it matter?
Members hotleatherworlds Posted March 27, 2023 Members Report Posted March 27, 2023 There can be many things it can be used for such as: bathroom rug you can use it as bed underlay or you can also use it as a decor in your room. Quote

I think you know what I meant but to be clear, many people are "Antis" of some kind these days and a great many will not entertain real animal fur in ant form. They don't stop to investigate where the fur comes from. Quote
Members doubleh Posted March 28, 2023 Members Report Posted March 28, 2023 Weeeellll, if it is large enough-----oh, forget it. I didn't say anything. Quote
