How to close a sheath without using snaps?

Good morning everyone,

I am making a sheath for a foldable knife. This is my first attempt and I've been doing research and noticed that the most common way of securing the flap that closes the sheath is by using a snap. Now, I don't have these available and I don't know how to install them so is there a way to acomplish quick (relatively) closing and release with another method?

Sew a strip of leather across the sheath, Sew just the ends, Make a long flap that comes down over the knife handle and slips behind that strip.

Actually . . . I make a similar sheath for a lot of my friends for our cell phones . . . and it could be easily redone for a knife.

Don't bother with the outside piece of leather . . . just make the back piece long enough . . . and the interior wide enough . . . that you can fold the back strip down inside the sheath . . . between the knife and the front of the sheath.

That will also allow you to fully carve and / or decorate the front of the sheath with whatever stamping or carving would suit your fancy.

I ride my zero turn mower with my phone in such a case . . . it stays put . . .

Another type that doesn’t need a snap is a wet formed sheath, wish I took more pictures

That's a good one but I would like this sheath to have a cover from the top. That's why I'd rather keep the strap.

I've made many of the wet molded sheaths and they work very well.
