They are too thick for the holding slot on the strap cutter http://www.leprevo.co.uk/cutting.htm but I bought mine by 10 from China via ebay. I built up a stock of them Quote

Members purplefox66 Posted April 18, 2023 Members Report Posted April 18, 2023 springfield leather also sells replacement blades https://www.springfieldleather.com/Blade-Strap-Cutter-5-pk Quote
Moderator bruce johnson Posted April 18, 2023 Moderator Report Posted April 18, 2023 I use the single edge razor blades. They fit my wooden strap cutters and I break off the excess length with pliers. Quote
Members Handstitched Posted April 18, 2023 Members Report Posted April 18, 2023 I have also used skiver blades, and like with all blades, they can be lethal , take care HS Quote
Members shug Posted April 18, 2023 Author Members Report Posted April 18, 2023 hi,i have a wooden strap cutter that has given me good service but i am finding the spare blades hard to find and expensive so i would appreciate suggestions for a replacement with readily available and reasonably priced blades.even better ,one that can utilise a number of different blades.also ,preferably available in the uk .thanks. Members TomE Posted April 18, 2023 Members Report Posted April 18, 2023 I replied to your previous post about this. Abbey England sells blades for the common wooden strap cutter. I sharpen and strop these blades, so I rarely replace them. Quote

Contributing Member fredk Posted April 18, 2023 Contributing Member Report Posted April 18, 2023 (edited) A lot of you say you are using the skiver blade which seems to be the sam blade for the automatic razor. My skiver blades are too thick to go into the blade slot on my strap cutter btw another answer for the OP is the pistol shaped cutter, or the plough gauge here; https://www.amazon.co.uk/OwnMy-Leather-Cutter-Aluminium-Cutting/dp/B0868B1N9S and; https://www.etsy.com/uk/listing/958106152/leather-cutting-tool-leather-strap T.169 here; http://www.leprevo.co.uk/cutting.htm Edited April 18, 2023 by fredk Quote
Members LePrevo Posted May 12, 2023 Members Report Posted May 12, 2023 We've fitted a new type of blade to our wooden strap cutters in the workshop and they're the best we've ever had - not unusual to cut a hundred straps a week with them and still holding their edge after months of use at that level. Would usually be replacing standard blades after a couple of hundred straps http://www.leprevo.co.uk/cutting.htm - code T40 for a pack of 5 or T40 A for a single blade - given how well these last a single blade might be all you need and then don't have to look for a new cutting tool. You also don't get that lethal blade overhang with them - much safer than using skiver blades in them. Quote
