dikman Report post Posted April 29, 2023 That is very generous of AlZilla. The grips may not be quite long enough but a couple of bits of contrasting wood to fill in the gaps should work. First glue the grips on then file them down to suit. Easy. Cocobolo is pretty resistant to water but waxing the handle should be all you'll need. SUP Report post Posted April 29, 2023 (edited) It truly is! I will do that. I am delighted that I will be doing something with wood too. Always wanted to work with my hands and never go a chance until now. You can, I hope, teach an old dog new tricks! Edited April 29, 2023 by SUP
chuck123wapati Report post Posted April 29, 2023 looks like you got a plan!!!! That aluminum is pretty easy to work down with a file also so you can shape it to suit yourself.
TomE Report post Posted April 29, 2023 That's a long handle. I prefer that a round knife fits in the palm of my hand so I can push against the end of the handle. Also might be nice to taper the end attached to the blade for skiving.

dikman Report post Posted April 29, 2023 Looking forward to the end result, and remember, it only has to suit you so it doesn't have to be perfect, just functional.
SUP Report post Posted May 1, 2023 Yes. True. It will be a while because I have to get up the courage to make it! Will need to get some basic tools as well. Having never done anything with metal or wood, I am delighted to be doing it but a little apprehensive as well. This is, I know child's play for most, but for me, something new. I will put up pics.
