Working with Kangaroo leather

Recommended Posts

I've been having some fun lately making watch straps from Kangaroo leather. It keeps me off the streets..1014182707_kangarooassortmentreduced.jpg.9ba9e1b129f2764c55c46ba89f237209.jpg

I quite like those, very nice :specool:

I don't get much call for watch straps .

I get my chrome tanned roo hides from Packers in Qld and take advantage of their specials.

Nice to see a few more Aussies on here too :)

Thank you for the compliments on my work Yuma, Handstitched, and Rocky Aussie! Yes, it took me a while to get here, but I'm glad I finally made it.

And yes they're double thickness with a bit of salamander padding in there. Oh, and it's veg. tan Roo from Packers, I must have a look at the chrome some day soon too.

Welcome!  I also share your interest in watches.  If you haven't yet, check out longislandwatch.com.  The owner, Marc, is a great guy.  And he offers lots of value for the money.

Very nice ‘precise’ work.

It appears to me you are using an inverse pricking iron, as well as a regular one.
That’s a nice detail I really like.

well done!

Hi GrandpaJoel,

Thank you for the kind words. Yes I am using inverse pricking irons. I found that using the same stitch angle/ pricking iron all the way around caused an infuriating (for me at least) optical illusion  This was where one line of stitching appearing to be closer to the edge than the other. This was all due to the slant of the stitches.
