Painting Leather White

Hi, everyone!

I’m looking to make a corset that someone would like in white. What are the most effective and efficient methods to getting the leather even? Is there a way to dye the leather?

I had someone recommend diluting paint, like Angelus, spraying the leather first, then painting over it to get an even surface. I also heard that spray painting the leather can get a nice even coat without the streaks of a brush. 

Thoughts?

For something like that I'd be looking for a pre-dyed leather, the coating should be more uniform and durable. Just my first thought.

Unfortunately, there isn't a white dye like there are for all the other colors available commercially that I am aware of. White Acrylic leather paint is your best option. If you can apply it with an airbrush all the better, as you can control the application over a large surface and its fairly quick compared to applying it by brush/sponge,etc

You can get 'recolourant' in white. Its sort-of a dye

I have bought some straight up white leather before. Had a customer wanting a pouch made of white leather.

To that point, my local Tandy has some straight white alum tan for sale. I’ve seen chrome tan that’s already struck white.

Lol I knew nothing of leather when I bought that white leather for that pouch. I do know it wet formed good, cause I later made a phone case for another person. Turned out so good I made another 1 for a display model.

I had no idea such a thing existed until I went into the store a few months ago, saw the alum tan, and thought, “What the heck is that?”

Yep here is that white leather I bought. I'm not sure what it is. Veg, chrome, or alum tan. But it does wet mold good. It also had a rough back side like veg-tan leather.
