I see that some models of heavy duty industrial sewing machines (Cowboy CB4500 and Techsew 5100 for example) offer a holster needle plate.  What is the purpose of this plate?  Would it be necessary to acquire this to properly make an IWB holster similar to a Milt Sparks VMII?

Also, some of these plates have serrations that run left-to-right (if looking at the front of the sewing machine).  What are the serrations for?

FWIW, the attached pic is a holster plate for a Cowboy CB4500.

You will find more information in the forum     Fabrication > Leather Sewing Machines

Check it out.

I would check out what @RockyAussie & @Patrick1 offer for holster plates & feed dogs.

I have a Cobra class 3. The holster plate is used for stitching around belt clips and stuff like that. You use the right top feed dog, no bottom feed dog. This allows you to get very close. Mine has no serrations.
