AlZilla Posted Sunday at 06:04 PM Report Posted Sunday at 06:04 PM Generally I just make functional things, including this one. But I thought I'd post it anyway. I bought a cheap Tractor Supply knife, put a razor edge on it, cut the junk sheath apart and used it for a template. Here's the result. Machine sewn, for the curious. AlZilla Posted Sunday at 10:28 PM Author Report Posted Sunday at 10:28 PM Thanks, guys. In the harsh light of pictures, it looks like I could decrease my presser foot pressure. CFM chuck123wapati Posted Monday at 12:27 PM CFM Report Posted Monday at 12:27 PM I agree thats a nice job indeed!!! I have picked up some good steel cheap at TS myself. Suggestions. if you were to use a belt sander on that sheath's stitched edge, it would be perfectly flat and would burnish beautifully. As well if you just glue it up before sewing, you won't need the clamps or the resulting marks. What i do if i need clamps i leave enough extra edge material that i can cut or sand off in the finishing. They work pretty good for not leaving clamp marks. Quote

Members DoogMeister Posted Monday at 03:14 PM Members Report Posted Monday at 03:14 PM I use popsicle sticks and tongue depressors under plastic clamps from Harbor Freight. Spreads out the pressure from the clamps so there are no marks. Quote
AlZilla Posted Monday at 04:40 PM Author Report Posted Monday at 04:40 PM Yeah, I knew somebody would spot that I burnished before I glued ... Normally, I would glue/sand/burnish. It also would have flattened that edge and avoided the little stitching hiccup on the back. Appreciate the comments ... That's a good idea. I use to just put a small piece of leather under the clamps. Those hobby lobby clamps work great tho. There's like 30 or so clamps in a pack for I think $10. Not a bad deal. Quote
