Howdy, in my perpetual search for new and different fabrics for bag liners I found a reasonable source for affordable linings at Fabric Wholesale Direct. For a number of my bags I use the following lining: https://fabricwholesaledirect.com/products/ottertex-300d-solution-dyed-pu-waterproof-hexagon-grid-ripstop-fabric?variant=40771585638515

They have other rip stop fabrics as well that are quite nice as well.

I have found that watching the people that do fabric sewing can teach a lot about bag making techniques and sources of fabrics.

Leather work machines I own: Thor 1341, Thor 441, LSZ-1 clone, 801 bell skiver,  Tinker's Delight Shoe Patcher. (Tippmann Boss was re-homed.)

They look quite good well done, nice colours too 👍

I've stopped making tobacco pouches, no one is buying them or ordering them,  which is no surprise considering  the price of tobacco here in oz , anywhere from $70 to $ 120 for 50 grams.

Glad I don't smoke

I think more people have gone from tobacco to vaping as the prices for cigarettes and other tobacco products are crazy. A pack of 20 cigarettes in Ontario is now roughly $20 CAD. After 50 years of smoking I gave up my 4 pack a day habit about 7 years ago. To keep myself sort of sane I now vape to my hearts content for about $30 a month.

Vaping is a factor  I had thought  of , I'm surprised I haven't  been asked to make pouches for vapes .

I packed up smoking over 25 years ago, cold turkey.

$20 ? Holy crap  that's so cheap . In Oz you're looking at around $70 +.

Tobacco is now the biggest drug problem in prisons because they have gone tobacco-free; it costs more inside than pot or hard drugs.

Worked in a prison for 30 years if I aint shiny every time I comment its no big deal, I just don't wave pompoms.

“I won’t be wronged, I won’t be insulted, and I won’t be laid a hand on. I don’t do these things to other people, and I require the same from them.” THE DUKE!

I've been asked to make a holder for a vape, but there doesn't seem to be much interest on my part. Despite the fact that I use one, it doesn't appeal to make a leather cover. Maybe I don't like it enough...or maybe I would find it less interesting than the classic lighter cover.

In the mid-80's, as I was being guided through intake, I didn't know AT ALL what I was doing. I had a full pack of 'TM's' on me, and through guile and ignorance, managed to transfer them into my issued clothing. Got on to the range, and only later discovered that I hadn't done myself any favours. They were terribly valuable, and I was as ignorant as anyone could be. (no-one ended up getting them lol)

In that time, a pack of cigarettes was likely about 2 bucks, but since it was a 'young offender' facility, cigarettes were forbidden, driving their value up. Most any of my fellow residents would usually hope for, was a smuggled package of tobacco, which I found unappealing for a number of reasons.

As an aside, due to the (ridiculously) high cost of tobacco here - due to government taxes - the sale of legal tobacco is falling dramatically (and the government tax intake) BUT illegal sales are booming! Funny that.

Not having made tobacco pouches (nor being a smoker) it never occurred to me that they would need a waterproof lining.

Tobacy burns better when it has certain level of moisture in it. Pipe & cigar smokers can buy humidors for their baccy stock in big jars. You add water to the humidor and put it with the baccy/cigars and it keeps the baccy very, very ever so slightly moist so it burns better. Dry baccy doesn't burn well.

Thus a waterproof lining in a pouch helps the baccy not drying out as well as keeping water out

I made a belt ouch for my vape*. The place I got the vape and oils from took my card(s) and was giving them out to people who complained they couldn't get a pouch or anything to carry their vape in

18 months only one call and that was a different shop asking if they could basically promote me and hand-made leather vape pouches

We're now into 36 months and nary a dickie bird

* which reminds me; I must make a new one

Al speling misteaks aer all mi own werk..
