Members ThisIsMyFirstRodeo Posted December 21, 2025 Members Report Posted December 21, 2025 Hey all, Okay, so it’s definitely a rookie question… I have yet to really grow my callouses on my pinkies, and my thread is starting to cut through my skin as I pull and tighten my stitches (I only hand stitch…). Any advice on how to protect my fingers while my callouses form? Thanks, and may you never burn your bacon, AZR Quote

Members SUP Posted December 21, 2025 Members Report Posted December 21, 2025 These work for me. I had to make them with very thin leather though. Else bending the pinkie as one stitches can cause discomfort. I keep it in position with Velcro. Very little stitching required. The pattern, if you plan to purchase, is $3.75 at this point, on Etsy. \https://www.etsy.com/listing/177991649/pattern-leather-stitching-glovelettes?ls=s&ga_order=most_relevant&ga_search_type=all&ga_view_type=gallery&ga_search_query=leather+gloves+pattern&ref=sr_gallery-1-18&sr_prefetch=1&pf_from=search&pro=1&sts=1&dd=1&content_source=26ef2132-bc4e-4635-9661-a74388428a26%3ALT6f7c3042b01201a47c9bd6f7e052a3bda7b44709&organic_search_click=1&logging_key=26ef2132-bc4e-4635-9661-a74388428a26%3ALT6f7c3042b01201a47c9bd6f7e052a3bda7b44709 Quote Learning is a life-long journey.
rktaylor Posted December 21, 2025 Report Posted December 21, 2025 I use athletic tape. Maybe that's the white tape Bruce mentioned. I tried band aids, but they weren't very effective. Randy Quote
Members dikman Posted December 21, 2025 Members Report Posted December 21, 2025 I cut the fingers off an old pair of leather gloves and slip one on my finger. I cut off the end so my finger pokes out. Sewn quite a few holsters and gunbelts, Works for me. Quote Machines wot I have - Singer 51W59; Singer 331K4; Seiko STH-8BLD; Pfaff 335; CB4500. Members Thadrick Posted December 22, 2025 Members Report Posted December 22, 2025 I've been using electrical tape. Probably because I'm an electrician and I have plenty around here. Quote
Members jrdunn Posted December 22, 2025 Members Report Posted December 22, 2025 This is kinda what I use. https://www.walmart.com/ip/Equate-Self-Adhering-1-Elastic-Bandages-2-Count/804779067?classType=VARIANT&athbdg=L1102&from=/search I actually use vet wrap which is used for horses and 4 inches wide. I just cut one inch strips of it. Same stuff. JM2C, Jim Quote
Members Handstitched Posted December 24, 2025 Members Report Posted December 24, 2025 After reading that, I must admit that my hands have toughened up over the years, pulling on thread isn't so difficult , but these days it's arthritis, carvers cramp, and my left hand seizes up holding a stamping tool, can be painful at times. I like dikmans idea though. HS Quote ' I have a very gweat friend in Wome called Biggus Dickus, He has a wife you know, do you know whats she's called? Incontinentia.......Incontinentia Buttocks '
