The top knife has exotic Bocote wood from Central America Bottom handle is from Chechen (Caribbean Rosewood) found in Cuba. Custom copper mosaic pins. 60-61 HRC (hardness). The price for them is certainly low, and I am sure you will have them sold quickly on this sight. There are always people looking for quality cutting tools and those are absolutely that. King's X Report post Posted May 25, 2014 I will take them....where do you want the money sent? I am buying them for one reason...........to get them off the internet. This design is unique and still in production by a knife maker in New Mexico. These individuals are probably the best people anyone can call friends. They are a mom and pop shop and making a great portion of their living off of their leatherwork products. There have been a few people who have copied their products and they have never said a word publicly about it. I as a owner of several of their products am coming forward to get these copycat models off the market. Paul is such a great and gentle guy......I bet if you call him and ask permission to copy or mimic his design he would be willing to give you that latitude and maybe even provide you some direction to change it so it can be called your own design. immiketoo Report post Posted May 25, 2014 I agree with Sam. I just spoke to the owners of the company you clearly copied from and their opinion is that you should give credit where its due. You admit that you took the design from the internet, but you've clearly not considered the impact of copying one of the most unique designs out there (X2) and then posting it on a forum in a vary small community of leatherworkers. I also own several of their knives, and think they are some of the best people out there. While you have copied the shape, I doubt you have been able to copy the quality at the price you've offered them at. Yours are pretty, but thats because the overall design is pretty. You should call Paul and apologize for the blatant rip off. We all understand that imitation is a form of flattery, and that these knives look cool, but have a heart and don't undercut someone in the industry with their own design. I might see making one of a similar design for personal use, but to put them out there for sale to others is a huge difference. Especially when you consider all the work and testing that went into the design of the knife. This is me personally, but I really question the motives of someone who's very first post is an item for sale. There's no history of the person's interaction with the community to be able to make any judgements on. There are a couple members in here who only use the expertise of the more knowledgeable people for the sole purpose of creating an eBay listing without ever giving anything back to the community. Seeing a design on the internet or ina book and copying it then selling it is a form of intellectual theft. Your brother looks like he is probably a decent knife maker. So have him come up with a design more his own then come back to see us when you are not trying to make money off of someone elses creativity with out giving them credit for it. I've made unique items that people have blatantly ripped off before and no one cares. I explained to everyone that I was the one that came up with a particular design for some tools and was told either get a patent or shut up. So.....all your goading of the OP probably won't do any good. People are going to copy other people's designs and sell them. tossik Report post Posted May 25, 2014 Well this escalated quickly! I did not come here to upset anyone or to sell things under others names. I never said they were original designs. I said they the style was from online. For me a tool is a tool. My brother does not make knives as a business. He made them for me because I know he makes great things. The only reason I am selling them because they are 5" and I want something close to 3-4" blade. For people that found where the design came from- thank you for bringing the credit into this post. They do great work, and deserve all the credit. I am not here to sell hundreds of these knives. I have 2. I don't want to sell to someone that just wants them out from the internet because the design is a copy (go on ebay and see copies). I want this tool to be used by someone that will appreciate it, and not hate on it. My brother spent a lot of time working on them, so I want the tools to go to the right home. To be fair, most blades are copies of other blades. So, even if my brother would have changed the design a bit, there would always be someone that would say that the blade is a copy of something else. LTC, Consult your local Intellectual Property Attorney and you'll find that unfortunately there are some things that simply are not Patentable. But then again, if I was a photographer I would copyright all my work, which the OP probably does giving him a full understanding of infringement concerning "original works." I empathize with you on your ideas being stolen and that in your case "no one cares" but I am also extremely thankful that in this case there are those that do care and have chosen to take action and do something they see as morally fitting for the occasion..... SO as I see it there is nothing for anyone to tell them to "shut up" about. If you ever need an Intellectual Property Attorney to get one of your ideas patented I can make several refferals as I am surrounded by research labs, advanced technology centers, etc. with plenty of legal counsel easily accessible. Also, as I see it, "all your goading of the OP" has done some good, at least from what the OP's response was toward acknowledging credit. PERSONALLY, if my brother made these for me there is absolutely no way I would sell them.....PERIOD...but that's just me. I treasure thing like that. And YES you're correct "It happens all the time on here and everywhere else" but again there are some who don't need a law (patent laws implicated here) to do the honorable thing. There have been many leathercrafters, knife makers, wood workers, machinists, etc. whose work I have admired and have asked permission to make one for myself, my wife, a friend, my brother, sister, whatever and have never been turned down. As a matter of fact, a few have become very close friends and we now collaborate on various projects. This is the sort of thing Sam was reffering to earlier. Hopefully this will help to instill a little more confidence toward an ethical standard that exceeds what laws dictate or on the other extreme "honor amoung thieves."
