Anyone know where I can get a cutting board bigger than what Tandys and Springfield leather sells? I would like one to be big enough to cover a whole table top big enough to cut holsters and rifle scabbards out on.

I have a piece of HDPE (high density polyethylene) that I bought on ebay a few years ago. It is a cutting board material. My piece is approx 2' x 5' x 1/2" thick. One brand name is "King Starboard" and can be found at some boat dealers. It is available in a multitude of colors, thicknesses, and sheet sizes. Interstateplastics.com will cut any size you want and has a pricing calculator on the website.

A piece 30" x 60" x 1/2" is around $75.00 + shipping. A piece 5' x 10' x 1/2" is $300.00 but shipping would probably double that. Google your local area for plastics suppliers and you may get lucky. I also have a so called "self healing" mat and my round knife slices right thru it, no healing going on there.

Costco has a really nice cutting board 20 x 15 x 1/2 for around $8. I use a table sized (40 x 60) mat on my cutting table from the fabric store,. which was around $40 on sale. I find the grid and ruler marking incredibly useful!

Go on line, . . . get the 40 or 50% coupon for JoAnn fabric, . . . go to the store, . . . their 36 x 50 is in the neighborhood of $55 before you use the coupon.

I have one on my table, . . . has been there only a little over a year, . . . but I love it, . . . like BDAZ said, . . . the lines help immensely.

I put mine down on a plywood top with double faced tape, . . .

May God bless,

Dwight

Mine is marked 33" x 58" plus the border. I have had mine for a year and if it gets too badly marked I'll just rotate 180 degrees.

If this company has a branch anywhere near you, they have 4' x 8' sheets of plastic suitable for cutting on, in various thicknesses. The last one I bought was 1/4" thick and cost under $100. The top of my cutting table is two sheets of 5/8" plywood topped with a sheet of plastic. Being able to cut anywhere on the table saves a lot of time.

Dwight, that can't be a real leather shop. it is too clean and organized --- you may not even be a real leatherworker...

Uhhh, . . . that was almost a year ago, . . . when we traversed the "shop" from the house to the actual shop built for that purpose. That is actually the first belt I did out there laying on the table at the sewing machine.

And, . . . well, . . . it looks "different" now :cowboy:

But thank you for your kind words, . . . there is enough "Destroyer Navy" influence out there that it is at least organized, . . . though maybe not painted and the deck swabbed.

May God bless,

Dwight

Weaver sells conveyor belting for about $27.00 per 1' X 6' --- it is basically the same thing at a much better price. You can buy as many feet as you need to cover your workbench, it makes a great cutting/pounding surface...
