silkfatblues Report post Posted September 6, 2015 Hi all, I will start this topic cause almost all the links in my old post here got broken. Sorry for that, I probably do have some fault in that but still don't know how that happened. Also I want to say I am sorry I just had no time to post here more often. Had some big orders this year and still I am trying to catch up with it all. I am also expanding my workshop and opening additional arts and crafts studio. It should have been done at March but the workshop is constantly busy so I am forced to delay the whole thing couple more weeks. Will post some pics as soon as I do move... Ok, and here are some pics of my work... Btw. all of you that have seen them do not hate me please, I just want to have a topic here with no broken links and 8 pages of nothing... Thanx for understanding Big size side bags - based on WW2 side bags from some old BMW motorcycle, or so I have been told... I did promise to make more videos and I will, as soon as get my workshop in shape... Here is a short one you have already seen... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SuWgs5ud4Mk&feature=youtu.be

silkfatblues Report post Posted September 6, 2015 Side bags... I really don't like engraving on black leather, the only way you can see the image is with some help of reflections... But people mostly desire black leather stuff... This one went to Canada for an old Triumph A pair of sidebars just like the ones on top of the page but black... That is it for now... Fresh stuff soon Cheers, Silvio

jrny4wrd Report post Posted March 15, 2016 What weight tooling leather would you use on the double seat? I shortly have my first badlander to do. They want black so I am concidering buying the drum dyed black from w&c to tool on fearing that if I dye black it will check too much and vinegaroon is probably too dangerous to put on a bike. Feedback? Hi I really don't know how to answer this. When I use leather for tooling I go for something 3mm or thicker. But sometimes the shape of the seat demands stretching and then I might thin the leather a bit, just to loosen it slightly... I use only leather produced in Italy and I have noticed that it is not as rigid as what you would usually find in USA... talking about vege tanned... it is nicer for shaping and edges are more easy to work with... I still live and work in Croatia so my geography is what dictates where I will buy... but a year ago I was looking for a new tannery to work with (cause the old one started to deliver something unusable, after more than 15 years of great collaboration) and I really had to dig deep to find the factory that is able to produce leather that would produce 100% what we need... So lucky to have found them... but this was something i needed for a specific product in large quantity... when I work on designs and small projects i go to the local shop and improvise with what's at hand... Back to the question... I really do a lot of improvisation. I don't think to much about technical detail. I really just go to the shop and look and touch the leather until I find what feels like something that might work for me. But I guess it has something to do with experience... But somehow I think I have done it like that since ever... Good thing is to study the seat you are rebuilding. Try copying it all and then adding something of yours. Measure the thickness of the old leather where it is least worn out or stretched, and so... Hope I helped, sorry for not seeing the message before, I am just berried in work... cheers, s

MADMAX22 Report post Posted May 8, 2016 Ya can get that look by either carving the outline, beveling inward, then back grounding the space inside of your outline basically or you can do just a backgrounding within your design and can get a similar look. Personally I find doing the carving then beveling inward and backgrounding to be the neatest look. Assume thats how he did it, I could be wrong.
