Hi All.

I am making a John Wayne El Dorado holster and belt for a customer. Not sure how to tie up the belt as in attached picture, is it just knotted at the back. Any advice would be appreciated.

Would have to be, I believe. Tie a square/reefer knot, turn so the knot is somewhat flat, wet, then roll flat(er). When dry, it ain't gonna come loose.

Progress report on John Wayne rig. All cut, bevelled, stamped and now ready to dye dark brown.

You might try just tucking the free ends back under itself and leaving some tail on them. Offside billets and cinch straps on western saddles are generally laced on that way. If the lace is fairly snug in a holes and tight where you run the 2 through 1 hole then they generally won't come loose and often have to be cut apart. A knot like Red described would also work well.

All the best, Josh

Yes it's for a left hander and he wanted it to look like the original John Wayne holster and belt. I enjoyed building it, hope he likes it.

I have used this pattern a lot for guys who bought the Umarex Colt SAA replicas and use it for my own CAS rig and found that whiel I know it isn't a quick draw holster I needed to add a rivet as indicated just below the trigger guard to avoid metal on metal and it helped keep the holster from riding up on the draw.

Just a suggestion.
