Members jimi Posted January 3, 2017 Author Members Report Posted January 3, 2017 Hi, the screw is for blocking the rotation of the foot. you can fix it in one position without it moving. Quote
Moderator Wizcrafts Posted January 4, 2017 Moderator Report Posted January 4, 2017 I got the missing Singer lock screw and installed it a long time ago. It is a thumb screw, similar to the ones used to screw on edge guides onto flat bed machines. Moderator Wizcrafts Posted January 6, 2017 Moderator Report Posted January 6, 2017 Jimi; I finally remembered to measure the length of my gearboxes on my 29k71 and 29k172. The small bobbin k71 gearbox measures 190mm, while the 172 large bobbin model measures 200mm. The large gearbox is about 28mm wide at the widest part of the shuttle hole, while the k71 is just 25mm wide. I hope this helps. No. The needle hole would be ~5mm too far to the left of the needle. Members Constabulary Posted January 7, 2017 Members Report Posted January 7, 2017 Jimi, thats why I asked for the parts number. I assumed the large bobbin gear box would probably fit. I once had the chance to try a 29K60 gear box (large bobbin) but it did not fit. Too bad. But I kowno there once was a large bobbin short arm patcher but that was one of the Jap "U" Singers afaik. Consew makes what they badge as a "29B" these days, which is a short arm/large bobbin machine equipped for the handwheel to be mounted in either position. A couple of other importers also handle similar models, long or short arm. I've not seen exactly which components of their castings were copied to use original Singer parts, but it may open up a new avenue for you to explore. I couldn't wait out the avaricious hardware speculators in my area, so I bought a new Consew, since I needed its capacities. I replaced the hook which came with mine with a high-quality Japanese version made for an original large-bobbin Singer, and so far all the parts made for Singers have been drop-in fits. -DC Quote Machines: Juki LU-563, Consew 206-RB5, Singer 20U33, Pfaff 481, Mitsubishi CU-865-22, Consew 29B, Rebadged Juki LU-562, Mitsubishi LS2-180, Seiko SK-6, Juki LG-158-1
Members jimi Posted January 7, 2017 Author Members Report Posted January 7, 2017 Thank you Sark9 for the info, very nice looking clone you got there. it looks well made? changing over parts is an option left to explore but by the looks of things large gearbox`s seems to look wider also. it may be possible but i think some milling to the gearbox would have to be done??
