Members Retswerb Posted July 17, 2017 Members Report Posted July 17, 2017 (edited) Hi all, I've been lurking for a bit but haven't posted anything. Most of what I've done since picking up leatherworking last Fall has been journal covers, but this was something a little different. Got fed up with keeping my rivets in the cheap plastic packaging they came in, time to upgrade so I whipped this together last night with some scrap chrome-tan I had laying around. Top and bottom leather don't match but I made it for utility, not for looks. Thanks everyone for sharing your work! I love seeing it all. Edited July 17, 2017 by Retswerb typo Quote
Members Matt S Posted July 17, 2017 Members Report Posted July 17, 2017 Well that certainly does the job, and looks great. Next time, try gouging a little thickness from the inside of the folds to add some sharpness to the corners. If it's a veg tanned leather, you can dampen the folds too and knock them down for extra points. Quote
Members Grey Drakkon Posted July 17, 2017 Members Report Posted July 17, 2017 O_O I swear, there must be a brain wave going through the air or something, because for the past couple of days I was thinking about making a box by riveting it together! (I've been making boxes by saddle stitching them) Great job and great way to use up scrap while organizing your area, which organizes it even more. ^_^ Quote "Everyone with telekinesis, raise my hand!" -Repairman Jack

I think I'll make a similar one for my snaps, so I get another chance for improvement. Next one I'll make the sides a little taller too. bikermutt07 Posted January 26, 2018 Report Posted January 26, 2018 Way to use up that scrap. Quote I'm not paying 80 bucks for a belt!!! It's a strip of leather. How hard could it be? 4 years and 3 grand later.... I have a belt I can finally live with. Stitching is like gravy, it's only great if you make it every day. From Texas but in Bossier City, Louisiana.
