Members 9tpi Posted January 10, 2018 Members Report Posted January 10, 2018 Hey guys Here is a duffel bag I recently finished. It was made with dead stock calf skin leather from the YSL (yves Saint Laurent) accessory line. It has an embossed pebble grain/stingray pattern with a durable top coat, much like Saffiano leather. The bag is sewn at 6 spi (7 tpi) with 432 fil au chinois thread. Nickle plated hardware. Riri zipper. Leather is 4 oz. Thanks for looking Chris Quote https://www.instagram.com/c_skelhorn
Members Dunluce Posted January 10, 2018 Members Report Posted January 10, 2018 Very nice. Very clean. I admire it and your ability Quote
Members battlemunky Posted January 10, 2018 Members Report Posted January 10, 2018 Yeah, that is pretty meticulous. How does it feel? A lot of that Gucci/YSL high end leather just feels fake to me, almost like plastic. I dunno if people like that, but I'm not a fan of that cold plastic feeling leather. Quote
garypl Posted January 10, 2018 Report Posted January 10, 2018 That's a fine looking bag! Quote Cowboy 4500, Consew 206RB-4

To be totally transparent, I didn’t love working with this leather. It’s attravtive, hard-wearing, and you can tell the calf that they start with us good quality as it very dense with a tight grain. That being said, you’re correct; it feels plastic-y. It doesn’t burnish at all, impossible to see my pricking iron marks and does not hold a hot crease with my fileteuse iron. Plus it doesn’t have that intoxicating veg tanned aroma. Im happy I gave it a go but likely won’t look for this kind of leather in the future. I’ll stick to full veg Horween or Sedgwick sides lol. 1 hour ago, garypl said: That's a fine looking bag! Thanks very much 26 minutes ago, terryHHI said: Great work! I love the shape. bikermutt07 Posted January 11, 2018 Report Posted January 11, 2018 That's a great bag. Quote I'm not paying 80 bucks for a belt!!! It's a strip of leather. How hard could it be? 4 years and 3 grand later.... I have a belt I can finally live with. Stitching is like gravy, it's only great if you make it every day. From Texas but in Bossier City, Louisiana.
Members Stetson912 Posted January 11, 2018 Members Report Posted January 11, 2018 Another stunning piece. I'm going to be doing a tote bag soon. I can only hope it'll look that nice. Haha. Couldn't let a 9tpi post slip by haha! Quote
