Small tool gripping help

Recommended Posts

As I get older, I’m finding it hard to spend the time necessary to tool for any long period.   I have come to the conclusion that the tiny shafts on my shaders and such are the problem.  Wrapping them in masking tape aside, has anyone had any luck with After market products for improving or enlarging the grip on their tools?  Thanks.

I have seen people dipping them in liquid electrical tape or even the famous as seen on TV flex n seal (now available in dipping form at big box stores).

Multiple coats should build them up nice for ya. And even soften the blow a little bit.

I couldn't use my apple pencil for very long comfortably so I pulled a rubber grip off another pen and then wrapped it in leather

I wrap the small ones in the self sticking bandage wrap. Same stuff I use on my pinky for hand sewing.

If you need to cover a lot of tools it might be worth looking at clear vinyl tubing in the hardware store.  It comes in different sizes.  Bring a couple of your tools with you.  Try to find a tube that fits tightly.  If you dip it in boiling water it will get softer and slide on easily.

I bet that combined with the liquid tape would be a great combination.

You might try pencil grips - lots of styles - not free, but not overly expensive. like these @Amazon.   Might not fit all stamps, tho.

My wife bought me a pack of a silicone putty that can be molded and sets.  It hardens after a while into a semi soft structure.

I found that it makes an excellent grip on my small tools:

I believe that she purchased it from Target or Home Depot.

I suppose that JB Weld (available at any hardware store) can also be used but may not be as comfortable.
