Made this paper weight from s rounder for the top and a cut piece of 4 oz. leather for the back. Filled it with sand. Got the pattern for the tooling from an old Tandy craftaid. Stitched with one of those lock stitch awls just to see how well it worked. Has nylon thread so hopefully it will last awhile.

It should probably out last us and our kids. The stitches aren't really being pulled on like an item hanging on a belt would be.

Looks fantastic. Love the colors and the tooling.

I'm not paying 80 bucks for a belt!!! It's a strip of leather. How hard could it be? 4 years and 3 grand later.... I have a belt I can finally live with.

Stitching is like gravy, it's only great if you make it every day.

From Texas but in Bossier City, Louisiana.

Nice job! Paperweight, what a blast from the past.

So much leather...so little time.

Thanks guys I appreciate the kind words. I like tooling rounders and plan to do a few more that I can practice my saddle stitching on...but not any more paper weights. This was just something that was a one time thing. :)

So what is a rounder? I've seen those used for art framing. It would be useful to hold down rolled leather.

Most use rounders to make drink coasters with.  Great for beginning carver/toolers sine they're not too big, not too small, inexpensive and make something useful.  As shown here tho. They can have other uses.

We'll done.  I may have to make similar.
