Members robs456 Posted February 3, 2018 Members Report Posted February 3, 2018 Made a sheath for my 8 year old nephew's first knife. The kid is into Lord of the Rings so made it look 'elfish', and even gilded the carving with 23 karat gold leaf. Quote
Members TacticallySharp Posted February 3, 2018 Members Report Posted February 3, 2018 I like it! Very nice, I've been a LOTR follower since before the movies... Quote
alpha2 Posted February 3, 2018 Report Posted February 3, 2018 Totally Elfish! Nice sheath. Lucky boy. Quote

True words. I'm 64 and I'm still figuring out how lucky I am! At least my trophy wife tells me regularly that I am. Quote
garypl Posted February 4, 2018 Report Posted February 4, 2018 I used knives and guns when I was very young - from about the age of 11 - and I started my kids shooting when they were around 8 years old. Too many people around now days that are horrified at the thought of an 8 year old touching a knife or gun, even under adult supervision. Most of these types are in the bigger cities.... Quote
Members kiwican Posted February 4, 2018 Members Report Posted February 4, 2018 I honestly believe that it's everyone's responsibility and right to know how to use blade and boomstick. You never know when you may need to eat to survive or deal with varmints Quote

To build skills and a respect for nature, should be required in all schools up to college. Then mandatory military service. Quote
Members chiefjason Posted February 4, 2018 Members Report Posted February 4, 2018 Got any more of them nice, shiny daggers? Nice sheath. Quote
Members battlemunky Posted February 4, 2018 Members Report Posted February 4, 2018 You just made that kid's childhood. Remember when you were a kid and an adult did a stellar thing for you? You are that adult to your nephew right now. Awesome! Quote

That would be great, but I don't know, kids these days have too much going on all the time. But at the moment I'm a leatherworking hero to him and his family... Quote
Members battlemunky Posted February 6, 2018 Members Report Posted February 6, 2018 Yeah, I forget how different being a kid today is as opposed to having been one 35+ years ago. Quote

With the risk of going off topic, which I can do as I started the thread: Kids are no different today than they were 35 years ago, or 100 years ago or 500 years ago. Parents, school, society etc just treats them like the adults that they're not, which messes them up. That's the short version, I could go on about this but this is a leather forum.... Even shorter version: Yeah, you're right. Quote
