Members joelpete Posted August 20, 2018 Members Report Posted August 20, 2018 Quick background; my ex-wife remarried and lives in an area where they don't get garbage pick-up so they haul their own garbage to the dump. One day whilst hauling said garbage my sons discovered a treasure. Quote
Members joelpete Posted August 20, 2018 Author Members Report Posted August 20, 2018 (edited) The kids' step-dad said there really wasn't anything they could do with it, so their mother's response was to send it with the kids to my house, as a "Project." Just so happens I recently developed an interest in leatherwork so... Edited August 20, 2018 by joelpete Duplicate image Quote
Members joelpete Posted August 20, 2018 Author Members Report Posted August 20, 2018 The trunk is a pattern I bought off of Tandy's Leathercraft Library. The seat I purchased off of Amazon, disassembled and reverse engineered. The fender and get-back whip were my creations. The hand grips are straight outta China (Amazon.) Quote
Members rodneywt1180b Posted August 20, 2018 Members Report Posted August 20, 2018 I think that's the coolest trike I've seen. Great job! Quote

Members Stetson912 Posted August 21, 2018 Members Report Posted August 21, 2018 This is awesome. I thought you meant motorcycle trikem this I think is cooler. Good looking work on the seats and bag. And that whip is a quirky touch. That's probably my favorite part. I can see little biker kids peddlin down the street haha. Just needs a little two stroke hehe! Quote
Members Alisdair Posted August 21, 2018 Members Report Posted August 21, 2018 This is so cool! I've done a few bike seats in my time, too. Quote
Members porcupine Posted August 21, 2018 Members Report Posted August 21, 2018 That makes my day! That's so cool Quote
kgg Posted August 21, 2018 Report Posted August 21, 2018 Damn nice job, great restoration. This proves that one person's garbage can be another's treasure. kgg Quote
Members joelpete Posted August 21, 2018 Author Members Report Posted August 21, 2018 Thank you all for the kind words! I'm a semi-avid biker (Mountain bike, Road bike, part-time triathlete), so this was a fun project where I was able to incorporate several hobby skills (welding, mechanical, leatherwork, bike maintenance, etc.). I just wish I could afford to do more of these... I probably paid for five new trikes restoring this one. Quote
Members plinkercases Posted August 21, 2018 Members Report Posted August 21, 2018 That is now a real keeper... generations of riders to come. Quote

Members ComputerDoctor Posted August 25, 2018 Members Report Posted August 25, 2018 Very cool! Some local kid will have to join the 'HOG' chapter with that nice scoot! Sam:) Quote
Members rodneywt1180b Posted August 25, 2018 Members Report Posted August 25, 2018 (edited) I forgot to mention in my first comment. Those slicks are a nice touch, so is the wide whitewalls on the front. Where did you find them? Edited August 25, 2018 by rodneywt1180b Quote
Members buzzardbait Posted August 25, 2018 Members Report Posted August 25, 2018 Very nice. I would be proud to ride that, if I wasn't so old and fat! Quote
bikermutt07 Posted August 26, 2018 Report Posted August 26, 2018 That is a badass tricycle. Will you be selling it or saving it for a future grandson? You really did a great job. Quote

All the purchased items (hand grips, seat (before I tore it apart and rebuilt it), headset, etc.) I bought off of Amazon. The parts I needed were too specific to try to find them all "locally." I have no idea what I'm going to do with it. I could never get out of it the money I put into it, not to mention any of the craftwork. I'll probably just hang onto it until my kids loose all interest, then give it to someone that I think MIGHT take care of it for awhile. My kids will probably dig it for another year or so... Quote
bikermutt07 Posted August 27, 2018 Report Posted August 27, 2018 Well, then I say keep it for the future grandkids. They will love it. Quote
Albob Posted August 28, 2018 Report Posted August 28, 2018 That is simply amazing work, thank you for sharing and motivating. Quote
