I think its important in any of your choices above, a specific addition is helpful. This being a reducer pulley setup.

Any styles mentioned around here work and here on the forum are plenty of post explaining each style. Im now partial to the box style.

With your list up there I have to gladly promote the juki.

Good luck on your choice

It is nice to save some money but. I would like catskin suggested go and test the used machines with your stuff plus a bit and see what happens. Which you should do as well with the new ones you listed. The Juki has a safety clutch but only handles 138 max thread while the Cobra's handles max thread 207. I don't know what the Consew and Highlead will handle. The Highlead is a walking foot probably not a big deal but the others are compound feed machines. I would seriously look at the Juki 1541S. If you are planning on a new machine Buy ONCE, Cry ONCE.

This is a great thread. I’m not usually good at puns, either.

Back again!  Sorry if it seems like I'm all over the place but I have had a chance to talk to a couple dealers and have been convinced that a medium duty cylinder arm machine with flat bed conversion table is the way to go.

That being said my choices are down to 3 options:

  1. NEW Cobra Class 26 - From SLC
  2. NEW Artisan 2618 - Direct from Artisan
  3. Rebuilt Juki LS-341 - from Nickosew (includes leather package - speed reducer, edge guide, table, etc)

Was hoping to see if anyone could sway me in any direction on these machines?  Right now I'm leaning towards the Cobra Class 26 as it seems to tick all the right boxes for me for being able to sew light to mid weight leathers and has the flexibility to add on table for my flat items and use as cylinder for when I work my way up to bags/etc.

As always, thanks in advance to the helpful people of this forum!

I've had a lot of thoughts similar to yours, @YSRASupply. I was lucky enough to recently find a nice used cylinder arm machine but have spent a lot of time looking at the Class 26 and their other similar offerings. The Artisan machines look interesting, too. Keep us updated.

Worst mistake I ever made was buying a machine. I can’t figure it out. Have ruined a few projects. Made an enjoyable activity miserable. I hate even going in my shop now. Just seeing a very expensive mistake sitting there ruins my entire day. I should have stuck to hand sewing.

Ok maybe others can help in some way.

With that what machine choice did you pick from all the previous discussions.

It did seem to me you had decided towards a medium class, in cylinder type vs the flat beds.  So either style, using the 69, 92 and 138 Threads were your prefered pick.

Whats up with whatever

jsullivan, what appears to be the problem(s)? Which machine did you buy? What were your expectations of the machine? I'm sure that members here will be more than happy to try and help you resolve the issues you're having.

Perhaps if you start a new thread about this?

About to pull the trigger on the class 26 + flatbed conversion and edge guide...

Question on thread...

Is 69 bonded nylon thread suitable for wallets and small goods or should I look for 92 or 138?  SLC seems to only offer 69 and 138...

Or is there another type of thread other than bonded nylon that I should look for?

Thanks!

I use #69 thread on wallet interiors that are up to 4 ounces thickness. I move up to #92 thread for 5 to 8 ounces. I use #138 thread for 8 to 10 ounces.

As a reference, #69 thread has a breaking strength of 11 pounds. Number 92 has about 15 pounds strength and #138 has 22 pounds test. I usually sew wallet interiors with #69 and combine them to the back with #92.
