I have a budget of $500 and looking for a new/used best walking foot sewing machine for thread size 138. Cannot go lower than thread size 138 as it is a requirement. This is for home and occasional business use. What are my most reliable and best stitch quality options. I do not have room for a industrial sewing machine table.

With a budget of $500, with a walking foot and not an industrial sewing machine I only know of one that in it's spec lists that it can handle V138. The Reliable Barracuda ( https://reliablecorporation.com/collections/sewing#US ) at $499 US. The Sailrite and the Techsew are rated for V92.

I have a Rex 607Z for use in my motorhome and think it works fine with V92 bonded poly sewing 2-4 layers of 8 oz canvas but is marginal with 138.  The 138 stitches need to be a little loose or will pucker and is finicky to get the tension  right.  I think the Sailrite LSZ-1, Rex 607Z and the Reliable Barracuda are essentially the same design machine based on a Thompson and is a stretch to spec  them at 138 thread.   The Sailrite is likely a better built machine and leaves Sailrite adjusted and ready to sew from what I have read.  I have had issues with my 607Z staying in adjustment initially but now it has been solid for a couple of years of occasional use

The Singer 111W155 will sew #138 all day long.  However, no reverse and G size bobbin.  Certainly in the $500.00 budget.

All the mentioned industrial machines (Alder, Juki, Consew, Singer )are proven old iron, the problem as the original posts states " I do not have room for a industrial sewing machine table. " So are there other options beside the portable walking foot machines?

ouh - thats kinda cool!

I once made something similar from some old drawers but for a different purpose  - not for a portable machine but as an "on top adapter" for my Singer 111G156 table because the 212 flat bed is longer and I dont want an extra table for the 212.

Great option over the portable walking foot machines. Nice, neat compact way of packaging a much better machine along with a servo motor into a small transportable unit. This may give those that are short on space some ideas.

I am getting a singer 211-A967KB japanese made with new servo motor and used table and machine fully serviced for $650. Is it worth it. Or should I go for a Japanese made older Consew 206RB which will be around the same price or maybe a little more. Need it for sewing thread size 138 and to stitch leather, make ballistic nylon 1680 luggage and canvas tops and luggage work, upholstery etc etc. All for home purpose.

Please suggest which one should I go for or they are pretty much the same. How about parts availability.

I checked out the eBay machine you linked to and I think you might have missed this disclaimer: " Auction is for Machine Head Only (no table or motor included). "

Actually the guy is local to me and I am driving to his place tomorrow to pickup "A" machine. We talked an he said he will charge me $650 for the tuned / serviced singer 211-A967KB plus a decent table and new 550 servo motor. It ready to go and I will get a chance to stitch whatever I want as test and then buy it. He has other machines as well.

So should I go for Singer 211-A967KB or Consew-206RB series. !!!!

Again ... Need it for sewing thread size 138 and to stitch leather, make ballistic nylon 1680 luggage and canvas tops and luggage work, upholstery etc etc. All for home purpose.

Thanks for your input.

If you are near the Eastern Shore of VA/MD/DE there is a 211 Singer industrial with table and tuned up ready to sell-  here is the original Marketplace link- I bet she is pretty motivated to sell it cheap now (its been over a month)

OK I purchased the Singer 211 a1xxxk version for $650 with stand and new servo motor. Sews great but there is loose stitch on the top meaning I have to tighten thread coming out of bobbin. How do I do that for the top loading bigsize 1" bobbin. Are there any instructions on how to do it.

Could also mean that you have the top tension too high.

Machines wot I have - Singer 51W59; Singer 331K4; Seiko STH-8BLD; Pfaff 335; CB4500.

Chinese shoe patcher; Singer 201K (old hand crank)

It only works when the top tension is very high otherwise I get birds nest at the bottom. I am using thread size 138 both in top and bottom. It also varies what I am stitching, two layers vs 5 layers. Any advice how to easily increase bobbin tension... any articles.
