Is this a synchronized binding machine?

Recommended Posts

My machine also has parts from both of these other models.

You could try contacting Strima , they are the Zoje distributors in Europe..just possible that they have binders in stock ..

Presumably you have already asked Zoje in USA.

No actually I haven’t. The number I called in Florida said they are no longer a distributor. They did give me a number for north or South Carolina..but the guy never called me back. I will try the place you mentioned. Thank you.

Ok. Does that mean a pfaff 335 binder will not fit on this machine? I’m really trying to find an already made binder to work for me before I pay hundreds of dollars for a custom one.

I don't know Jeannie, but if that piece you bought fits then I'd say yes, it will fit, as that looks like a Pfaff binder plate. Does it have a part number on it? Those other two machines are clones of a Pfaff 335 and Juki 246, so I'm wondering if yours is one they designed themselves? They are supposed to be a large sewing machine manufacturer.

it would not surprise me when certain parts of the binder setup are interchangeable between the models - welcome to the clone world ;)

Upper front section of the Zoje 2628 looks very much "Singerish" to me, certain parts are typical for the Singer 111w / 153w machines. So I would suspect that the feet are Singer type too but of course I do not know for sure.

Hi, Yes that looks like it will fit. You just need the binder and the inside foot. did you see if you could lift your foot up a little? It should be the wing nut over at the back at the end of the bar for adjusting?

Hi. I don’t have a wing nut in the spot you mentioned. My outside foot does come up quite a bit more than the inner foot. Which of these nuts do I loosen to adjust the height of the inner foot? First or second picture?

Jeannie, have you downloaded the manual I linked? It explains how to adjust the feet.

The wingnut should be on the other end of the bolt in the first picture, it tightens a curved slotted bar.

No problem I had figured it out not long after I sent the message. Thanks anyway

Yes I printed one out. But I don’t have a wing it for some reason. I did get the feet adjusted though.

Way better and I got my cheap binder to work. Just had to mount my binder on the bracket it came with in the wrong position to get that metal guide out the way.

Hi there! I wanted to let you know I got things going. Made a bracket for the cheap binder I had and I’m good to go.

Wow, nice... well you know what they say "necessity is the mother of invention" :Lighten: Lol... your very crafty jeannie, that will keep you going for a while now, at least to get some practice in. As Folker said, the corners are the hard ones because if you don´t get in near to the foot then you end up off the tape on a tight corner, so maybe don´t try it on a bag without trying to do some practice corners first. And also you might need another screw to hold the bracket at the back as the tape could pull the tip in towards the foot?? just a thought...

Yes I will practice a lot before I screw up this leather. Do I have it close enough now?(in the pics) or do I need to get closer..or buy a shorter foot? I’m waiting on the binder arm bracket I ordered so these screws are temporary. I will have the y’all bolts Tuesday. I will order a pfaff binder in the next week probably too.

I have just set up the old one so you can see the setup. If you need a parts manual for the 335 let me know, i have it in PDF.

The closer the binder is set to the needle the better it works on curved items. You probably have to grind down the tip on the inner foot a bit. The Pfaff 335 type binders are designed for this type of machine (I think they are called shell binders). The one you are using (and so do I) are meant for flat bed machines or "unsynchronized" cylinder arm machines. So it requires a bit of tinkering to set them up for synchronized binder machines. If I had found reasonably priced 335 type binder for the tape size and thickness I´m using I would have bought them but they were not available at that time and I´m too much a cheap charlie and don´t wanted to pay high prices for an custom binder so I went the "economic" way and figured it is a good way (in this case). Of course my bracket does not look like factory made but the whole setup work great!

I know I repeat this but when you order a 335 type / shell binder make sure it is designed for the tape thickness you want to use!!!

Sample:

https://www.college-sewing.co.uk/at18c-20mm-x-5mm-x-1-5mm-shell-binder.html

20x5x1.5 means:

  • 20mm tape
  • 5mm mouth width
  • 1.5mm thick tape

I think folker does a better job than me ;)

Ok thanks! I printed the manual out. I didn’t think the manual would tell me what binder feet to use so I didn’t think to look at it. I will look it over. The bag I’m making has curves so I need it to be able to do that efficiently.

Ok thank you I will make sure. I see some pfaff binder foot sets on eBay. The pfaff binders I only see in China and shipping is over a month...not sure I want to wait that long lol. I will keep hunting.

Would the one you attached a link to work on my machine? If so maybe I need to just go with that one

I meant the parts manual so you could see the type of feet and binders that the 335 type machine uses, they might still be making variations?
