WolfteverGunleather Report post Posted August 19, 2020 @DustinSmith Very nice! What secrets can you share about how you keep your basketweave lined up so beautifully?
DustinSmith Report post Posted August 19, 2020 Start by drawing a line on the leather at the angle you want your basket weave to go
DustinSmith Report post Posted August 19, 2020 Next line the side of your stamp up on the line and make your first impression Flip the leather around and line the stamp up on the opposite side of the line and the previous impression
DustinSmith Report post Posted August 19, 2020 Continue turning the leather and alternating stamping on each side of the line, carefully keep the stamp on the line each time and the edge of the tool in the groove of the previous impression, once you are all the way across the area you want to stamp you should have 2 rows of stamps. To make your next row, align the stamp into the grooves of the previous row and continue moving to the next space, then the next until you reach the end Then just keep adding rows until you've covered the whole area! Hope that wasn't too confusing

JayEhl Report post Posted August 25, 2020 Adding pro tip from Don Gonzales that I use: add more than one line parallel line using a very light pencil marker. That way you can tell if your lines are going to go off kilter and stays true. The additional pencil marker doesn't show (for me) as I generally dye/antique it anyway. Just thought I'd throw in my newbie skill. ~JL
