Members WalterF Posted December 5, 2021 Members Report Posted December 5, 2021 Working on a new knife sheath, this is testing me. 48% of original size on the deer is tiny. The pattern is Jim Linnell's. the class is great. Now the dilemma do I oil antique or paint the deer. Wife says paint, but I am nervous. Quote
garypl Posted December 5, 2021 Report Posted December 5, 2021 Nice job! Unless you are really good at painting, I think it would look good antiqued. Quote
Members HandyDave Posted December 6, 2021 Members Report Posted December 6, 2021 (edited) Beautiful start. Im with these other guys antique finish and then you could come back in with some lite touches of paint just to highlight key areas to really make it pop. When im painting small details i advise a very good selection of very small brushes. Along with several different tools to magnify the piece so i can see what the hell im doin. CFM chuck123wapati Posted December 6, 2021 CFM Report Posted December 6, 2021 excellent work!!! i would leave the deer and acorns natural and darken the background, maybe dye the leaves lightly green. Then antique to bring out the basket weave. Quote

Members Silvyr Posted December 6, 2021 Members Report Posted December 6, 2021 I don't blame you I'm shite at painting myself, but damn does it look good oiled and antiqued WELL DONE. Is that just a regular basket weave, at what 5mm pricking iron/chisel spacing 1mm nylon thread, or did you use waxed linen? Quote

Thank you, It is a Double Rope Basket weave from BK Tools, I used a Cobra class 4 sewing machine adjusted to my liking, 128 thread. I thought of hand stitching but wanted to use sewing machine for ease. Hope this helps. Quote
