Members Chux Posted January 29, 2022 Members Report Posted January 29, 2022 Well....damn. idk, why but I always assumed that they were made half at a time, front side, back side then stitched together. I should probably do some "actual research" instead of trying to figure stuff out on my own. Exotic leather isn't something I've had experience with, but that being said I think I'll be attempting to make one of these with plain ol' vegtan... Thanks for taking the time to answer my question!! Quote

I'm scared of putting my hand inside of my wife's purse...seen an eagle climb out of there once...they got talons and beaks and a wingspan that can carry off a small sheep in a minute. Ever since I've been wary of women's purses... The thing that I am wondering is how he lined it. Most cigar cases are lined with various woods or plastic to protect the cigars from absorbing the odors from the leather and keep the moisture in the cigar. Otherwise it's beautiful craftsmanship Quote
Members Bert03241 Posted February 7, 2022 Members Report Posted February 7, 2022 Yea you really got eagle's. I didn't realize you had to line them, makes sense tho Quote
Members Chux Posted February 9, 2022 Members Report Posted February 9, 2022 In the video posted, when they sewed the seams there is a "guide" that they are pressing against. What's that called?? I tried Google but I can't seem to find it, could that possibly be a custom made piece and thats why?? Stupid question I'm sure but having something like that might make it possible for me to use the machine I bought but cant for the life of me get a straight stitch. God knows it cost me a months rent and I really would like to be able to use the damn thing... Quote

One way I can think of to get a good fit is to make the bottom half a bit longer than you need, Cut off the extra and use it as a spacer on the form, molding the top half over it. There are probably other ways, even a 'correct' way, but trial and error works for me. I think the whole full lid thing, instead of a flap and snap, is about air flow. Cigars need to be kept so they won't dry out, which is why humidors are a thing. While a leather case is never going to be air tight, its really about reducing the chances of air flow. Quote
