So I am working on a couple game calls for someone, I have a neighbor that does leather work however he doesn't braid , and did not know the answer. Thats what lead me here after a bunch of searching and you tube. I ordered 2 books and some latigo lace (still not here)to play around with (before plunging into roo), I am looking to make some call lanyards. I get the back braiding to close the loop, however for the drops are they braided in or dropped from the back braid? And what knot would I use to cinch against the call? Thanks nate Here is one of the calls lanyard will gonin far right groove

Hello All I spend a lot of time lurking and I'ts been a wile since I posted anything here so I thought I would share this. This Wood Handled Bullwhip was one of the whips I made for the documentary series History In The Making. It’s a 6ft 16plait bullwhip in brandy and featuring a 10 inch rosewood handle. This piece was the whip that was shown being braided during the shoot. The Hero Whip was the whip that was shown completed at the end of the segment. Thanx Skip

I’d like to use this braid as the stitching on a tote and am trying to figure out how to go around the corners and the best way to end the braid. Thank you in advance for any advice! charlesanne

I’m trying this braid and I’m really confused. I’m joining the edges of two pieces of leather with this braid and I want it to look good with an 8 strand around a core herringbone braid handle. The herringbone braid is made up of 3/16 stands. I was thinking about using the same size for the edge braid, or should I use a little smaller? Also, I’ve read the “if your strand is 1/8”, your punched holes should be 1/8” from the edge and 1/8” apart.” Is that from center to center or near edge to near edge? And what size hole should I punch for my 3/16” strand? Is there a chart with that info out there somewhere? Thank you everyone…

This is a 6 strand around a core. The first photo (white background) is after one attempt at tightening, the second (with the grey and purple background) is after another attempt. I feel like I’m not getting the hang of tightening correctly. I tend to pull to the side and back a bit and end up with a few small gaps, so I went in with a fid to try to tighten it up and it looks worse. Is there a process to tightening like that? A pattern I should follow? Do you braid a few rounds and then tighten or finish your braid and then go back and work it over? I’ve been using Fiebing’s white, but I’m not sure if I’m applying it correctly. Everyone seems to have a different proc…

I know many people are going to say it “depends” but I am curious about what you do. I have the Turks Head knot down but struggle with finding the right weight of leather lace. I first tried some thin soft deer lace but it kept wanting to scrunch up on itself the more leads that was needed. So then I went with a thick Latigo lace but it just seemed way to bulky. What do you do?

Howdy trying to figure out how to make a scarf slide. What do you use as the inner slide? looking at pictures I think I saw some using metal and others leather. I have some cooper tubing would that work? Do you need to the kangaroo or rawhide knot with anything to hold it together??

I picked up an old bosalita/pencil bosal at a yard sale. It's a decent piece of braidwork, but it's gotten soft with use. Is there anyway I can get some life and spring back into this soft rawhide? Would soaking it in water and letting it dry do the trick? I got it cheap, so I'm willing to experiment.
