I am heading up in the hills tomorrow to pick up an old homecraft 3/4 dual head electric motor. The Idea it to put one of the pro burnishers on one side and then a buffing pad/disc on the other. Any recommendations for a setup? Thanks, Nick

Hi, just received these skivers/cutter. Labeled AB Praktiska Nyheter (direct translation "Limited Company Practical News"). But they seem to be Landis (from what I've found online). They are quite rare in Sweden so information about them is very limited. And now I'm wondering if you could help me out. They are DIRTY and I'm trying to clean them up (I'm a "get everything disassembled and start from scratch" kind of guy). All seems to be working but are greasy/dirty from years of storage. The "sole cutter" seems to be missing it's "width adjuster" thingie. The skiver looks identical to this Landis: Quite grea…

I'm looking into making (or buying, on the off chance that flying pigs are sighted) a line finisher. It's mainly for shoe/boot making. What are the essential features? Looks like a muslin and horsehair wheel would be really useful. Also, a burnishing wheel. A few sanding wheels. What about trimming/cutting wheels? I usually see cordwainers cutting soles by hand. And the tool used for marking stitches on a welt? Is that essential or just nice-to-have? Also, I see some cone-shaped wheels that look like vitrified grinding wheels. What are those for? A shelf seems important. And what other features would you want? What about belt sander wheels vs drums? …

Well, I have found what may be the perfect home made burnisher motor. I found a 3300 rpm water pump for a whirlpool tub (I work for a company that does demo on these all the time). It's a 1/2" shaft 1 horsepower motor and it has three mounting feet on it.. Isn't that awesome? I didn't pay much attention to the switch during the demo and threw away the air switch button and hose. That wasn't much of a hurdle though. 5 bucks at the hardware store on a toggle switch had me up and running in no time. Now I just have to save up and get a pro edge burnisher to bolt on it and away we go.

Anyone have experience fixing a variable speed servo motor? It was working fine yesterday, but now when I turn on my machine it won't stop running. It's a 550w variable speed servo motor.. should I just get it replaced?

So I picked up a barely used Master Tools leather Splitter, was told and can confirm it is ~ 1 year old. When I checked out the demo at Weaver the same machine was splitting 5 oz. leather down to 2-3 oz with ease. I have calibrated my splitter per the instructions but can't get it to split with this precision. It currently tends to start splitting a piece of leather correctly then the top layer gets thinner and thinner and stops skiving usually about 2 inches into a strip of leather Does anyone have experience with this machine and can offer some advice how to calibrate it to split thinner leather? I have noticed the bottom roller, which is spring loaded, gets pushed dow…

Hello everyone, Could use some advice before listing a Pro Embosser that has never been taken out of the box. I bought this several years ago and due to health issues, never used it. I think it's time for a new home but having trouble finding a new one and I don't remember what I paid for it so I could sure use a fair value for this. No wheels, just the machine. Any help would be greatly appreciated

I stumbled across a skiving machine in storage, but have no clue if this will even work...! The motor is 3 phase - so this will have to be replaced with a single phase motor. The "arm" is missing - would this render the machine useless or can it work without the arm? I have never operated a machine like this....so I don't want to lose fingers trying to find out if it will work!! Where are the experts??
