Back when I was younger and had all my hair, I decided I wanted to make my own belt rather than settling for what I could get from the store. So, I asked some advice from one of them "experts." I says, "How long do I make it?" He says "Add four inches." "Mmm-kay. Add four inches to what" At which point I got a crash course in rocket science that I didn't want or need. So, I did what most folks do and measured out my old belt. That worked. But then a feller asked me to make him one. Mmm-kay. Now I'm in trouble. Moral of the story is I got tired of the hit and miss, the re-do's, and utterance of profane syllables. So, I created the little tutorial posted here and want t…

I have been tooling for many years and have always used patterns from books, pasting pictures together, etc. I have Pete Gorrell's book as well as design artistry (Baird) and 4-5 Chan Geer books. I am SO *(#)(*&$ frustrated that I can't draw a design that I like. They come out too stemmy, to much background, or usually so crowded that the stem and leaves are bigger than the flowers. IS THERE A RULE OF THUMB or at least a consensus on belt patterns!?!?! l know to start at the tip (duh!) but when drawing, do you place your flowers and leaves and fill in the blanks? and if so, do you draw the stems up from the bottom or down from the top? I know it sounds stupid but …

Kate's instructions have been copied into a PDF file A while back I had posted my biker wallet pattern, and a few people have asked me for more detailed information on how these wallets are put together, as it is not intuitively obvious from just looking at the pattern pieces. It took me a few tries to figure out the construction sequence; the pieces have to go together just right, or you paint yourself into a proverbial corner! I usually cut the interior pieces from some very light calf skin. But I'm out of that, and I really wanted to do this demo this weekend, so instead I used some light-weight chap/upholstery leather I had laying around. It does not sew up…

Decided to replace some posterboard patterns with kydex for longevity, but ran out. So instead of making a separate pattern for thumbreak versions, created a swing away piece that patterns the thumbreak. When swung back it doesn’t affect the pattern. But when you need the thumbreak, just line up the arrows. It pivots on a Chicago screw. This way save patterns and I won’t loose the piece.

I was just selected as a tester for EngraveFill Pro. I should go live in the next couple weeks, but WOW am I impressed. Cool thing is, you only pay what you generate. No $300 programs! check it out. I am in no way associated with them, just a tester, but they seem like nice folks. https://engravefill.app/ On Facebook https://www.facebook.com/groups/1359934906135899 Mod Note: Removed link tracking

Good morning everybody! I’m working on a small bag about 8”x12” and need to learn how to figure how long the gusset has to be. I tried laying a waxed thread all the way around the side piece like the video showed but it came out way too long, like 2”. Sooo…..I’d like to get it closer the first time. The sew line will be 3 /16” from the edge so does that mean the dimensions are now 7-5/8”x11-5/8” ? That makes sense to me…. Any sound reliable advice will be greatly appreciated! HELP! Dano P.S. Thought I should say the panel will overlap the gusset, panel on top.

Does anyone have any leads they could point me towards on making a Boston style firefighter helmet shield? I was contacted on Facebook about making one. Not going to lie, I have a list longer than my leg of things I want to make and shields are on there but haven't as yet had a chance to do so. Any help to figure out if it's something I can manage would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!!

I’m wanting to make myself a new pair of chaps. I’ve been trying (with no luck) to find a slim batwing that fits almost like a shotgun. I found these that Shooting Star Saddlery makes as an example.Does anybody have a pattern or know where I can find one? thanks in advance!
