  1. Clay,I looked and don't have pictures of the hand hole or sturipp slots being cut in this saddle.I do have of the skirts being blocked on and the seat being fit .I will post those,On the next saddle I will take some of the hole being cut and the slots being cut.
  2. That is an interesting way of measuring a cinch length, alot depends on how low your rigging set on your saddle.I ride a lot of pretty good sized horses and have never used that long of cinch,I could see it if your using a Dee ring rigging. On my horses there would be nothing to take up the slack, cinch would be from rigging to rigging ring. Steve
  3. Joanne ,I use a 28 on most horses.On bigger barreled I will use a 30 Steve
  4. Joanne,I ride several horses with 1 saddle,most of the time I like a 28" cinch.My riggings drop down about 6 1/2 " of the bars.I keep a 26 and 30" for different sized horses.Good post. Steve
  5. Russ,When you deside on what tree your going with you can get the leg cut you want.I have made some on a bowman tree that had 13 1/2 swells that were good to rope off of and still had enough front to ride a pretty tough horse in.a 14 " swell with a 1" leg cut is plenty. With Rod making the tree you can do a lot with it. Steve
  6. Joel,Keep it cleaned with saddle soap and a soft wire wheel to ruff the nap back up.Should look good again. The rough out take alot of abuse that doesn't show up like a smoothout would. All saddles need to be cleaned and reconditioned a couple of times a year if used hard. Steve
  7. Just finished this saddle.3/B Visalia tree,16 1/4" seat,4 x 11" cantle,Skirt rigged at 7/8s.Made on a Felkins tree with Herman Oak skirting
  8. Bob The knife was made off a old Dixon knife I have. Its tapered back about i"The handle is a man made material that I don't know the name of. Thanks Steve
  9. I just got this knife from Steve Ellsworth ,It's his first round knife.I tried it out and cuts really nice.See what you think of it. It measures 5 3/4" across the blade
  10. Cotton is fine until you get grooves and it hangs your rope up.Lot of people hurt when that happens.I would stick with a leather wrap. Just my thoughts on cotton
  11. Joel,You need to figer out what you want first.A 3/b makes a nice saddle but so can a wade ,bowman or an Assoc..Just need a narrow seat and bars that fit your horses. Most makers can probably fill your needs..You can always get more help here. Steve
  12. Very nice saddle Troy,Its great to see a piece of art work Steve
  13. Pete ,I cut the border with a swivel knife and then crease it with a Beader. On this saddle I beveled the crease with a cheakered beveler.
  14. Bob,I used olive oil and sunshine, followed by a coat of Neatlac
  15. Just finished this saddle today. It is a 16"seat 3b,5 x 11" cantle,no.5 dally horn,3/4 flate plate rigged, with pointed shirts.Creased a double line around the borders. Saddle made up nice
  16. Pete,I use a beader that McMillen made me 38 yrs. ago.It just creases the double lines into the leather.Saddle is sold, shipped it to Montana last week
  17. Tim you can put the gullet cover in first or after your ground seat is installed Billy,I use risers to help make a rise for my strainer piece,You don't have to put them in.The stirrup slots shouldn't weaken the seat at all.If you are worried about it you can hand sew the back of the hand hole and that will keep it from moving
  18. Ross,The roll I got was really small sides, the wiegh was lighter than I ordered and fell off fast. Steve
  19. !7"seat a fork,9"swell,dally horn,5 x 10" cantle,3/4 flate plate,pointed skirts
  20. I use some of it,Works well for ruff outs. The nap is nice and even.Haven't used any of there drum dyed yet.The last HO I got was pretty poor, but still using it . Steve Brewer
  21. Billy,I like ring rigged saddles.Thet work good on wade treed saddles,I build a few with them every year. Steve
