  2. Gday Denise , I have not used Dear Rawhide but what process did Rod use to get the stretch out ?? I use a lot of roo and now a bit of rawhide , and i cut my strings twice the size than what i want them, after all the stretch is taken out i resize them to the size strings i want to plait with ,, please dont get me wrong , i have never used dear as i said before but does it keep stretching after it has been stretched and then resized ?? Cheers Bevan www.bwrwhips.com
  3. Gday mate all is well at the moment but we do have a hell of a lot of water coming our way down the rivers , they all bottle neck just above Renmark , so i am hoping all will be well , one thing i do know , the Yabbies are going spastic at the moment and will only get better I live on the Murray River in South Oz and we are about 30 miles from the borders , Qld , Nsw and Vic are all in flood , the biggest in Qld ever , plus all the dams are full in Vic and Nsw so looks like we are in for a good one with more rain coming , bloody globel warming !!!! and you guys are snowed under ,,, what the !!! That is awesome work you have done Calvin I would be proud to have that on my horse like i am sure your brother is to have it on his ,, plus i bet the sister in law is chaffed aswell my friend Take care mate Cheers Bevan ps what helps me with the straightness in the nosebutton is , i devide the nosebutton up in length by 4 , then the circumfrence in to 4 and draw those lines in , if you build the middle up you must divide that width equal aswell , but the trick i have found is to keep a good eye on the pattern as you go , i look down the button as i go , from ring knot to ring knot !!! that is the best way i have found to get a straight line , i hope this helps you mate , it did me , Cheers again bud Bevan

  7. Thanks Ken I used the same as Spence did for his dog collar , still only two rowes of holes but 3 inbetween them on each end , they are for the start and finish , so i used a 5 thong and followed the Bruce Grant book ,very handy book to have in your libery !!! Your buckel is very nice mate , any info on how you did it ?? as i would like to 1 as nice as that Cheers Bevan Happy new year mate

ps sorry for not answering you on the white hide question !! Tawoomba sadlery had some awhile back , i got some falls from Bernie he said they still had a few hides.

  11. [ Nice pics , Nice horse ,TOP JOB mate you have done well, I know Steve is very happy with them and after a few clinics you might " will " be a busy man Cheers Bevan
  12. Gday Calvin its good to see you have posted some pics I think what the rest have said is right , you need to have a better build up on you foundation knot so ya strings have something to hang onto ,' I also use a string to keep them there untill i have done the turn !!! IN your pics i notice you have worked all your strings to the middle "center virtical line " I work mine along the horizontal line and i keep an eye on keeping them straight by looking down this line !! I know it is very hard not to have a quick look at what the noise button might look like when finished at this stage !! but as soon as we bend it around the lace will move of the knot a tad because it has room to move , !!! because only half the knot is done !!when you finish all the knot and if your lace is the right size it will hold its own and cant move , if your lace is too wide you will have an air pocket underneth and it will still move , pm me if you still have hassels and hopefully we can sort it Cheers Bevan
  13. http://www.secretosd...ro.blogspot.com and the best way to do a good tight knot is to have the right width lace ,,, that way there are no gaps like in the link above Bevan

    Rifle Sling

Thanks for the kind words Caroline. Gday there Joe I was just going to plait a 50mm strap then sew a keeper and a 25 mm strap that connects to the rifle clip on the butt end then on the fore end i was going to sew a keeper to the lace then have a 25mm strap from there go thru the clip back to a buckle for adjustment, as for the padding i have seen a post on here that i will look up again but i have all summer to get this done so i think i might go fishing first Joe Cheer Bevan www.bwrwhips.com

    Kangaroo Hide

Well done Brian I bet you are stoked with your hides, but now you have cut your lace, after stretching what is the finished width going to be of your cut lace ? When I cut lace for a bosal, I might be looking for 3mm finished lace for a nose button, and 4.5mm to cover the rawhide core , so i will cut a 25mm strip , after stretching i will cut that strip into my strands ,getting 4 strands at 4mm wide to resize and bevelle so i have enough 3mm strands for my nose button , with the rest of the 25mm strip i will cut 3 strings at 5mm , resize and bevel to cover the core with a 12 or 16 plait , with the bike seat shape peice of leather left over i will get my tandy lace cutter and get a heap of lace 5 mm wide that i will resize for the heel knot and spanish ring knots, I also will cut the hind legs and tail off first so i can cover my stock whip handles out of them, most of my hides come in at around the 6.4 or 6.6 dm mark It took me awhile to work out but this works for me and with what i do and I am sure you have got your hides all worked out aswell , best of luck mate and happy braiding !! Cheers Bevan http://www.bwrwhips.com
