I didn't find anything about victorian working cloths, but maybe you will find some inspiration here: http://www.costumes.org/classes/fashiondress/menswearblip.htm http://www.marquise.de/en/1800/index.shtml Gesa

We had a poll here http://leatherworker.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=16751&st=0&p=107067&hl=wrist%20size&fromsearch=1entry107067 Maybe that will help along with the comments to find out how much you need from each lenght. Abouts childs wrists I don't know much. I was "hired" last summer from my nephew for his 10th birthday to make braclets and I just remember how different where their wrist sizes. From much smaller than mine to a little bigger. Gesa

My boss asked me yesterday, if I could repair the seat of the car of one of our agents. before:the black sythetic leather is brittle I cut the patches from upholstery leather ans skived about 0.5 mm at the edges, so the edges will lay flat after sewing. It took me about five hours to sew it and today my back muscles hurt and my fingertips are sore..... Gesa

Adding initials to a saddle
gesa replied to RichardCollmorgen's topic in General Saddlery Discussion
As "removable" initals I made these to fasten with the conchos on the back jockey. It might be an idea if its not possible to carve the saddle. Gesa -
a white belt for my Mom
gesa posted a topic in Purses, Wallets, Belts and Miscellaneous Pocket Items
Here is the white belt I made for my Mom. I could only find white upholstry leather, so I used a strap of bridle leather as filler. On the backside I cut off the exess leather with a edger size 3. Gesa -

Hello all, my brother is police inspector and developed a severe addiction in buying knives for everey possible occasion. From time to time it happens that he don't like the sheath that comes with the knife and then I have to make him a new one. This knife he liked to carry in two different positions. The loop on the backside is open, so that he can carry it lateral or upright. At this one he just didn't like the plastic so I made in leather with belt loops. Gesa

I live in Hannover, Germany ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hannover ) and took yesterday some pictures when drove back home from the flea market. I found there an old edger size 4 The flea market at the river Leine with sculptures "Nana" by Niki de St.Phalle . It is close to the oldest part of Hannover. I live at the south end of the lake Masch and the easiest way reach the city centre is by bicycle. Between the flea market and the lake is a small park with the new Townhall. The north end of the lake. Almost at home.... This is the greenest part of Hannover, there are also other sides of the town I don't like that much. Gesa

Hello Lorrso, A little trick to make the creasing to the split is to use a divider with a dull tip. I have divider that I customised with sandpaper and a polishing wheel. Use the edge of the strap as guide for one tip and follow the creasing line with the other tip. Be careful, that the divider don't scratch the leather. Other possibillity is more difficult, to do it free hand with a bone folder ( that is how I learned it!). Oh and be sure to practice on scrap leather. Your bridle looks made to size for the horse, all buckles are buckled in the middle hole. Perfect! Gesa

I think Johann try to explain that leather in german ( or maybe european) tanneries are treated in a special way. After the tanning process, when the hide is still wet, it has wrinkles and does not lay flat on a table , because it is still a bit shaped like a cow. Now there are large slicking maschines to straighten these hides. With these process they become a bit larger. If they stretch the leather to its limits, they have more suface to sell, when the leather is sold by squarefoot or squaremeter. These hides have no good quality. I hope you understand my description.......there is no online dictionary about leather related terms. Gesa

Hello DJ, I use for padding nosebands, english and crank style, a foam that is called "Evazote", I think it is the technical word for this kind of foam material. Here it is sold in several thicknesses. For english nosebands I use thinner foam about 5 mm thick and for crank nosebands a bit thicker . Gesa

Hello Johann, I buy my carving leather and most other leathers I need at Kobel http://www.kobel-leder.de/ . Their leather is easy to carve, but it is maybe not as cheap as other tannerys. The burnishing of Hermann Oak leather is a bit reddish, and Kobel leather not. They send you samples upon request I think. They sell their thicker hides from 2 mm up by kilogram , only thin leathers are sold by squaremeter. Years ago I bought a hide via ebay ( it was the one and only auction I saw from them) from Kilger http://www.kilger.de/index.cfm It was a very good quality too, but I don't know their current pricelist. Today I looked through my collection of old Tandy catalogs and found these Kits in the Fall-Winter Catalog from 1959: More ideas to build similar shoes.... Gesa

Hello Aaron, I found the kit about two times on ebay, but I could not bid on them. It is always a bit expensive with postage and customs to import them to Germany. But I collect almost every interesting picture /pattern to create one day the items. These are the pictures I found. Perhaps you can create the pattern with the help of the pictures. Gesa
