Don101 replied to jetech's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
if it doesnt need a date try this, this is a holster that i made also millitary but they used it on there scabbards you stitch a piece of leather in the insid of the seam and it does keep the scabbard open -

civil war era carbine boot
Don101 replied to jetech's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
erm sorry did you realize that that boot wasnt around untill 1887 the earlier version without the brass plate was 1884 and the civil wat version was a small ring that attatched to the stirup , you slung the carbine with the carbine sling and stuck th barrel in the ring when mounted, hope that helps a little -
Hello and welcome
-
ive been using a stitching groover since day one and made hundreds of holsters and never heard that its a week point or that any of my holsters have come apart, it helps protect the stitch against wear and also gives it a better look on the finished item.

to tell you the truth dont put yourself down its turned out ok, (you should of seen my first) the stitching is fine its not easy to stitch through so many layers and end up with a nice stiching without practice and youve done a good job, the edges could use a little work granted i use a flat bed sander first and then burnish the edges, the slots can be worked out easly by using an adjustable rightangle and use a long punch for the holes, you could try to use a rounded dowel to wet mold as you can get more pressure and wont end up scratching the leather which can happen with a spoon, Don

Hi and welcome you can use buckles which were used first in the 1880s and in the 1890s they started to also use snaps on there cuffs you can use any desighn you like starting from a simple stamped border to a roled border edge ill post a couple of pics of original cuffs to give you a few ideas
