  1. They look nice, good shape. How did you attach them under the fork and what did you stuff them with? I am used to seeing them attached to each other with a small strap between them and laced through a small hole in the seat right behind the handhole.
  2. I agree for a sliding ear headstall to not have a throatlatch, but a full browband headstall needs one to balance, and yours with the heavy studs would look better with one, just my opinion.
  3. Pretty cool looking, but you need a throatlatch to complete it.
  4. I have his ground seat DVD and his Floral Design DVD, both are very good in my opinion. I would have liked a little more info on the floral design one, but I understand the floral carving DVD would probably go into depth more.
  5. I have always thought this was a sure sign of poorly made machine work, cutting corners. I would prefer to end my stitch line and backstitch, burning the thread ends if synthetic. Less likely to snag and stronger.
  6. Nice job. Did you scallop cut your cantle binding before final fit and sewing, or after you sewed it? Also, what kind of sewing machine do you use, just curious looking at your skirt stitch line. Am also interested in the Dennis Lane system, ordered a set of the cards but haven't used them yet.
  7. Thank you, I did get to see the video from the guy in FL on the Cobra, I was hoping to see him split a piece the full width of the machine at 20". I'll do a search on the Artisan.
  8. I am looking to buy a new splitter in the next couple months and wondered if anyone of you out there has experience with the Cobra or Artisan 20" powered splitters. I have heard some say they both have issues with sharpening and replacing the blade to get it adjusted properly. Any opinions? thanks,Tom
  9. I'm trying to find some large dot snaps with Buffalo Head Nickels on them for a customers leather vest and not having much luck, anyone know where to find them? thanks, Tom
  10. I would be interested in any of the soft poly ropes you have in 50' plus for $35. Let me know, I can send you a check or Pay Pal.
  11. I can't believe I missed seeing this post. My wife is building hats and looking for the same type of hot foil embosser. Anyone out there have an extra they would part with?
  12. You might try Sheridan Leather Outfitters in Sheridan, WY. When you talk to Luke or Vandy, just tell them what you're looking for and what you're building and they will help you out. 888-803-3030 is their toll free number.

  14. I just picked up an old JB Randall lockstitch machine that has serial number 445 stamped on the front of it. Very dirty, but seems tight and smooth to operate. I need to clean it up and replace the main belt before actually sewing with it. I wonder does anyone on here have experience with these old machines, or know how I can find out more info on it? I know they sew a really consistent, tight stitch in heavy leather, which is why I bought it, plus the price was right. Any help is appreciated. thanks, Tom
  15. I make mine from a pattern very similar to Ray's and it does take a bit more leather than some other patterns. You will need a wide strip to sew on for the fringe or cut your leg pattern wider to cut the fringe directly on the leg, also need a good size piece for the cuff on the bottom of the leg. I order from the Hide House and if you ask them to send you a side 24' or larger and not real narrow through the middle, you will have plenty.
  16. I would like the opportunity to attend, where would you have the school? Tom
  17. Where did you come up with that? It is too cool, you would hate to even cut something or scratch on it.
  18. Well said, Madsaddler. Our country is in a giant disaster that was only made significantly worse by the current administration. Harrington By the way, do you still have any of your shop tools, leather, machines etc. for sale?
  19. I think the "grain" you are talking about would be the same as the way the hair lays on a live animal. Good idea, but not always possible to cut some pieces like this such as a saddle seat which will span a broad area with several different "grain" directions. Tom
  20. Without seeing the whole saddle, I would repair it by building and installing both sides of a new flat plate rigging.
  21. Barry King sells one that is about the size of a brand new pencil and has a perfect smooth ball point.
  22. Bob Klenda from Meeker, CO has a good pattern for them. He has a website you can Google.
