  1. very nice! i am very slowly gathering some tools for sheridan carving.
  2. thanks clay! it was originally going to be all black and i think that would of been ashame. i talked him into leaving natural. i try to improve somewhere with each project i do. i have a couple tool bags to work on and then it's back to seats!
  3. thanks for the compliments! more to come!
  4. thanks for the compliment abn. i guess it's a matter of priorities... any time i have for leather, i pretty much spend on customer's stuff. i will have to break down and make myself a belt soon. i want to make a linned belt and saddle stitch it so, it will take quite a bit of time. i did have my father make a new jaw for my stitching pony. he made it about 20 years ago and the original jaws were small and shallow. i had him add quite a bit of depth and the clamping area is now about 6" instead of the 3.5". anyway.... i need to make a new strap it before i can use it. here is the skull seat finished up.
  5. any time! pics never do them justice. i always get emails after customers receive thier seat back about how much better it looks in thier hands. samples..... i don't have the time for them and don't do any shows. i haven't had time to make a seat for myself till last year and it was very simple. i hope to have the time to rewok it this spring. i was just telling someone... i still wear a store bought belt cause i just don't have the time to make on for myself
  6. thanks for the comments guys!!! i have the first one about finished up and will post a pic of it in the next day or so. i have also installed a polymer insert to give the rider a bit more comfort the second seat is a brushed aluminum pan. it was left bare with a triple loop stitch done around the edge. it was the look the customer wanted. i am also finishing up a set of leather covered grips to go with it. the major... i can't really help with id-ing old seats. most of what i work on are custom pans. if you think it's a harley pan and too large for a sporty, it may be for an fxr or fxd
  7. here are a couple i've been working on.
  8. my latest! i am really getting backed up these days!! i have hadbetween 4 and 8 seats sitting since the beginning of the year! right now i'm working on four and have three more to start after that. anyway... here is the one that's about done. I'm starting to get a good feel for my new bevels:) what a difference they make!!
  9. i have thought about having a nice stamp made but, just can't come up with a design i like. i have done over sixty seats now and use a veiner to produce my mark. it's simple and i off set it slightly on the nose of the seat. anyone that has seen my work knows it's mine. it does get noticed as i do get questions as to what that mark is
  10. i really don't have time for a project for the contest but, i would be happy to help out if you need me:)
  11. gary, i returned your pm. i am in long branch
  12. i'm very happy with them! i got a set of checked first. i'll be ordering a smooth set shortly. i also want to order another one of his swivel knives. got one of them for christmas
  13. at least $100 for that bag. i charge too little for mine and i don't do all that lacing. i double loop stitch the gussets on and that's it. i charge $80 plus shipping. the only thing i would do differently is, use double cap rivets since they will be seen when the bag is open. i also only use solid brass or nicle/chrome plated brass so there are no rust problems Nice looking bag!
  14. i mail order everthing! i have been using siegel of california for the leather i use for bags. i get north american double shoulders when ever they have them on sale normally 9-10oz. i also buy from hide crafter, tandy and weaver.
  15. BTW>> i got a set of barry king bevelers for my b-day!!! i can't wait to put them to use on a seat. i did do some playing with them last night and they are incredible to work with!!!
  16. thanks for all the compliments guys! i really like tri weave! i am in search of a better stamp though. i am using a craftool and it really doesn't work well. i also don't have $125 to spend on one from bob beard );
  17. been busy trying to make a few extra dollars so, i haven't been able to spend any time here. here's a few of my latest
  18. very nice! your stitching is nice and clean!!
  19. i have one of those also but, i prefer to use my headknife. i feel like i have better control. most of the skiving i do is on the buckle ends of straps and belts
  20. well... pics in general just don't show the detail and depth of most tooling. the customer is always shocked at how much better the actual item looks than the picture. that was fun and totally different. i would like to do a complete paisley seat or purse or both one of these days
