    Free Scrap!

looks like it's gone already. i'll let everyone know. BTW. i generally have a box every 3-4 months. i just don't have the time for many projects other than my seats and bags so out it goes
  2. she says it's going to be her next tattoo! normally it's the other way around. i have customers send me pics of their tat to use in the design
  3. well... if you look at a book on lacing they suggest the lacing holes be spaced according to the width of the lace. so if you are using 3/16" lace the hole should be around 3/16" from the edge and spaced with a 3/16" gap between the holes. i go further apart than that but prefer to keep them tight enough that the lace is a nice tight braid. to me there is too much time and effort in basket weave to not have it tight. you are also using a lot more lace to put the holes so far from the edge. attached is a closeup of some basket weave i did. this is also 3/16" lace.
  4. i carved this up on saturday and got the cover laced and the seat assembled yesterday. it's a skinny seat not much larger than a p-pad LOL! i'll post some pics of the seat once it's dyed tonight.

    Free Scrap!

Time again to get rid of my scrap. i have a large box that i side came in. it's at least 8"x 8" x 60" jammed full of veg tan scrap. everything from 3-4oz up to a bit of 10-11oz. lots of good size pieces also. the first one to pm me can have it for $20 shipping
  6. tooling looks great! i would have the holes closer to the edge though. what size lace are you going with?
  7. thanks tom!! tan-kote over the paint
  8. finally had a chance to take some pics outside before i box this one up.
  9. well tina... for this one i cut the top off the old cover in the shape i wanted and that was my only pattern. generally i just try and keep the laced seam on the top edge no real plan on the lacing. i just lay out the holes with the spacing i prefer and lace it up. thanks for the compliment!
  10. nice size bag! i have to design one up for a customer. it will have a tool bag size pouch on the front or detachable bag. not sure yet. you may want to try moving the lacing holes closer together on the next one. it will tighten up the pattern
  11. thanks clay! i once again used a camo to do much of the hairing. i came up with the paw print idea once i started tooling and wish i had done another row of tracks. they are done with a pear shader and swivel knife for the claw marks
  12. thanks tom!! the lace is 3/16"
  13. very nice! your color work is really nice. would you happen to have a pic of it before color?
  14. thanks guys! it needs another coat of black dye and a good buffing. i'll take a couple pics outside once it's done. clay.. i put this one off for about 2 months. the artwork was supplied by the customer. he originally wanted the tiger paw on top. i told him i thought it would work better the other way around. it was harder to visualize the contours and texture working within the paw print and fleur de le. pic of the tooling
  15. this thing is quite large! i'll have to try and get some better pics of it outside once i'm done with it.
  16. thanks again all! tom... i am happy if one seat produces my next customer!
  17. don't know about x-1 but, Tandy has a new formula tanner's bond contact cement that i won't buy again! i loved the old stuff but what they have not is not working out. biggest problem is trying to use the stuff when the temp is under 50 degrees. with the old stuff it could set in my gluing area (no heat) when it's in the teens outside and never had an issue. the new stuff also smells lots more and take much longer for the smell to go away
  18. thanks guys! i'm real busy david so i just don't get here much pretty much having to put people off a few weeks so i don't get too much piled up at once
  19. done a bunch of saddle stitched solo's. The first two are headed to England.
  20. thanks guys! guess i'll go back under my rock now. c-ya around
  21. Been busy with things in general. some of my latest if you care to look.
  22. i would think your best bet is to use the existing cover as a template. cut it apart for the different pieces. i would think that is a rather difficult seat for a first. i haven't covered one quite that complex
  23. she's done! i decided to saddle stitch it and give it that old warn sorta look.
  24. thank you for the compliments!! pinups are fun to do. i wish i had the time and funds to donate more often. this is actually the first seat i have donated this year. generally every 3-4 months something comes up and i donate. if you have any questions, feel free to ask. there is lots of good help and multiple ways of doing things.
