great job art!! i haven't done a flask in quite some time. good looking piece
-
if you go to their website you can download the 2006 cataloge in PDF format. from what i understand they dropped some stuff that wasn't moving all that well. i won't deal with them till they get things straightened out but, that's just me.

what a beautiful bunch of roses! thank you for showing them both raw and colored!

pretty piece!! real nice job on all that small text -
very nice!! i love the case. nice to see you posting more of your work. ron does great work and is one that has inspired me to try some sheridan carving. i am slowly gathering the tools and play with it now and then

looks great tom!! i don't see any problems

thanks everyone for your comments once again!!!! all the dye is fiebings pro oil dyes thanks for the comments and compliments!! i won't use antiques if i can help it. they just don't hold up to use and weather. this design is also supposed to have the "look" of fire. i wouldn't want to darken it at all.

not much else to add.... happy birthday art!

very cool!! i like your grape vines

i always clean the leather before dyeing it. the residue left from the black oil dye is normal. i buff off ass much as possible then use some lexol and buff again. that generally gets rid of any left over residue. i find red to not be an easy color to get uniform. i try and airbrush as mush as i can for even coverage but that's not an option with what you are doing unless you dye the whole thing red then black over the black areas

thanks shirley! i think i have pics of the push seat before covering it at home but not sure. pics always work best for me
-
that looks alot like much of what i have been covering these days. sounds like she is having to reach for the new bars and is sitting forward on the seat. you will need to add some push to move the seating position forward some. generally 2 to 4" is what is needed these two seats started out the same. as you can see one has some push added to it. somewhere around 3.5"

glueing to vegtan.
Roger replied to calanneh's topic in Dyes, Antiques, Stains, Glues, Waxes, Finishes and Conditioners.
you should have used contact cement. rubber cement is more for a temperary bond. you may want to scuff the leather a bit for a better bond -
hadn't really thought about it but, i've only made one and i finished it the same as my seats. just a couple coats of pecards.

i use whatever upholstery leather i can find on sale. 2-3oz is what i use. i have also done thinner bags when i'm outa 10 oz and lined them with 3-4oz veg tan vinyl would make it more waterproof inside
-
really depends on the seat. post a pic and i'm sure we can help you out. i wonder if she slides back because she is shorter and not sitting in the seat or it's just not shaped right and she is sliding off the back??

thanks everyone!! grumpy.. i used two different fonts. i do it quite often especially when working with upper and lower case. the "m" started as bickham script pro semibol. i changed it some to look more like the fettefraktur font that was used for the rest of it
-
on really small detailed stuff i will just bevel but, anything else get carved. the swivel knife work should be fairly quick compaired to beveling and backgrounding
-
thanks! the customer wanted a bit of blue to tie the seat into the bike. it should hold up well in most places i don't know anyone that doesn't make some sort of mistakes. some are just better at fixing or hiding them i have gotten faster at it but, 8 to 25 hours not including the art work. i think there is only around ten hours in this one. i have another hour or so to go on it.
-
no problem! this is the book i have. very simple and easy to understand. tandy carries it.
-
still need to cover the bottom and put the mounting hardware on this one. i also installed a polymer pad for some extra comfort so i included a couple of those pics also
-
thanks brad!! i use cova colors and have never had a cracking problem. i go thin with the paint. also... the flesh tone is natural leather. there is no paint in the bends dan, the ends are laced using a double loop stitch. get a lacing book. it will show you how to do all the basic patterns. the rest of the bag is sewn because it's lined
-
i really like that! looks like you got some pretty good depth out of the thin leather.
