I know this is way past the time but I would go with the template. I personally don't like them but in this case it works for the following reasons. 1). She said no and she is the artist if you want to wreck your partnership go ahead. 2) Absolutely no one will stay in a monochromatic site. People want to see colour they will not go in the site if it is just black and white, unless you are selling photography. 3) The third picture is way too busy, almost frustrating because it is so much and all monochromatic. Go with the template til you can find a picture you both like more. Randi-Lee

Cool logo, cool name and welcome to the board, Justin. Leather is fun even when you are cursing at a project. Randi-Lee

Dan, I would switch sides too. You have some gorgeous horses, maybe I will come your way this summer and relieve you of a few. You would never miss them. When I was little there would be horses in a field and I would tell my mother that I had to take them home because they were all alone and no one owned them. Randi-Lee

Where is the money in leatherwork?
Leather Girl replied to LAPat's topic in Marketing and Advertising
I concur with pretty much everyone has said here. The problem in business and I speak as a person who has been in business since 1996, I have to order most things from other countries and that means using my poor abused credit card. Unfortunately I cannot get around it because of my businesses. I don't just run one business, I run many mixed into one and have never made a huge profit. Many companies have little rules like a $500 to $1000 minimum and then the shipping practically equals that. I cry every time I have to order from the US because the shipping charges cost me more than bringing things from India. All of this being said I just don't do leather, I do statuary, jewellery, fine art, and many other things so I don't have to bring in the items just the supplies. As was said if you know how to do animal, equine, fetish and reenactment, holsters, etc then you have a great start. If you are good at clothing that is a big step up too. The worst in any business that you make your own items is that most people don't understand what it costs and takes to make the items. I have started putting cards printed with the time etc., that it takes to do an item, they don't even understand that you may have to draw up your own pattern which takes time. I used to work two jobs so that I could do this. I was forced to quit because I became very ill, so now I am retired from public jobs and work my own. Where I live you need to be a millionaire or have 5 partners to own a storefront business, as this is a horribly expensive place. I do not have a million dollars and I will never have partners. I do have return clients all the time but it is not enough. So this is something you really have to work at and I am busier now then when I worked the two public sector jobs. Randi-Lee -
Thanks Jon, I have to remodel the site but where do I have the time. That site was all hard coded with frames. I am going to change it because I need to slam things up quickly and not fool around with coding. Randi-Lee

Selling At Summer Shows And Fairs
Leather Girl replied to UKRay's topic in Marketing and Advertising
Ray, I love, love , love, your Celtic cloths and wish I could get some. In Canada our tents are 10x10 and you get to stringing them together. I have one and wish I had bigger but can't carry bigger, personally or in my car. I started with Highland Games and things have snowballed since then. I have been doing this for almost ten years and for the rotten children I bring my cat o'nine tails and say,"unruly children will be beaten." Most kids behave and the parents want to buy the whip...lol. Now I am a girl who loves colour and I have clothes on a rack outside the tent that flap in the breeze to attract people. I also made a pink and purple tablecloths because I don't like white and at these things you would be washing all the time. You have a lovely banner. I love your setup but oak is heavy and I only have a toyota matrix which is usually loaded to the roof and the front seat. This year I have a farmers market every Saturday from April 28th till the end of October, with a Medieval Faire and other faires inbetween. I concur on the POS terminal. Last year when I brought it in I figured things out and I would have made only half to one quarter of what I did if I didn't have it. For people who don't have them and thinking of having them to do these type of things make sure you tell them it has to be able to work in a field. If any other Canadians on here want to know of a good company that has no bank connections contact me and I will get you in touch with them. Randi-Lee -
I would say it would be good for: purses, some on a quiver, holster. scabbard, sheath, gauntlets, cuffs, etc. I am a person who is just not into tooling but adding little unique piece of leather to something. I am not saying I don't totally tool somethings, just that others I like to punch it up and add something neat to it, just like the idea on the guitar strap. That is cool leather you can even make jewellery out of it. Randi-Lee PS. Dogs need sleep too.

That is very neat looking leather. Is it soft or firm? Randi-Lee

I love animals, all animals and my two very favorites are horses and cats . I love horse the smell of them, their velvet noses and lips and I love kissing them. From the time I was very young I loved horses and I was the only one in my family who was horse crazy. When I bought my horse and had subsequent babies they were a huge joy in my life. I ended up showing them and training horses along with dogs and cats(showing). Horses are amazing they carry their weight and you and equipment too. I had taught my horses to kiss and people who say they can't see in colour are nuts. Every time I had or came up in a different car they would not come to me until I walked up to them. One time another boarder and I had the same car different colours but they came to my car and not hers. Once a year my horse would throw me, she knew when I was not paying attention. She would then stand and laugh at me but I loved them so and everyday I miss them and think of them. It has been 25 years since they have been gone. If you love horses you will always love them. They are a noble and beautiful animal who will always have a piece of my heart. I have not seen war horse and that is because I know I will cry all the way through the movie. Randi-Lee

Adding Semi Precious Gemstones To A Piece
Leather Girl replied to Leather Girl's topic in Collars, Cuffs, Leashes and Leads
Thank you, Spence, I will definitely try that and the dog does look very regal and proud of that collar. Randi-Lee -
Why is this in this section you ask. Well I am about to try and put some semi precious gemstones into a medieval style headdress. I was wondering if anyone has successfully done this and they stayed in. If they have been successful, what did you use to keep the stones in etc. Thanks so much, Randi-Lee

That is why it is good to go for a little more. You never know what you will do in the future. This machine can pretty much cover it all. Randi-Lee

Troy, The horn one looks totally uncomfortable. So my question is, is it comfortable. Those horns are huge. Randi-Lee -
I Am Looking For A 1911 Holster Pattern
Leather Girl replied to sinpac's topic in Patterns and Templates
Tandy has a 1911 Pattern pack. It has 11 different designs and magazine cases in it. Randi-Lee -
As bottles and such like to leak I would put snaps and make the liner out of ripstop or material used to make raincoats. Then when it gets yucky, wet , etc., it can be pulled out and washed. Randi-Lee

Choker Necklace Sizing
Leather Girl replied to mrdabeetle's topic in Collars, Cuffs, Leashes and Leads
Good suggestions for the smaller pieces, Sylvia. Randi-Lee -
Just getting around to this so, I live in Calgary Alberta. I used to show and train horses, dogs and show cats. I had two horses that I had taught to kiss and miss them dearly. Now it is just me and my two cats, Princess and Thor, he weighs 24 pounds. I constantly tell him I will make him a leather biker jacket and he gives me the ugly eyes for it. I will not tell you how old I am but I used to watch Roy Rogers because I loved the dog and the horses on it. I have worked in leather since I was eight years old. I primarily do fetish wear and equipment, medieval, archery, holsters, books, scabbards, sheaths and clothing and now with my new cobra 4 (Thanks Steve and Dave) I can expand much more. I used to work in the entertainment industry and have been in a few movies, oh so long ago. I had worked for the Flames, Calgary Stampede and lastly City of Calgary, I am thrilled to have divorced them and went full time in my own business which is a Pagan store in my home and all my leather. I may not make the same steady money I did with the city but way happier to work for me. Randi-Lee
