Hello Troy, I hope to be busy in the shop if this weather will warm up a bit. Not typical deep south temps and sure that many folks are having problems. More of the same forecast for at least another week. BRRRRRRRRRRRR------- I agree that Robb Barr dvd's are great. His works are A1 and sure that everyone using them has enjoyed them immensely. George Hurst has plenty of knowledge and does a good job with the basics for those getting started. Just went through Military Grafix dvd and there is over 3500 images for me to select from. Everything from cartoon like characters to the genuine articles. Also great selection of line art which will be great for patterns, should the need arise. Have to take a trip into town today and not looking forward to leaving the warmth of the casa. High today in upper 30's. Still thinking about that move to south Florida. lol. God Bless. Ray

Will do Troy, if able to get that far. Was digging around this morning and found that I had stuck away on a shelf, two additional videos purchased some time ago. One is, Creating an Eagle head Portrait by Robb Barr, another is, Dyeing and Finishing by George Hurst. Wait, there is more. lol. Also Classic Carving Patterns, by L.S. Irish and plenty of great ideas and drawings for use by leather folks, and, Springfield leather, volume 1 and 2 of helpful tips. Even more goodies I found, Heraldry, U.S. Military Insignia, Decorations, and Medals, by the Army Institute of Heraldry, and, Military Clip Art, U.S. Navy Insignia volume 1 by ArchAngel Software, plus, Military Grafx, by Clpgrafx. Pays to look around once in awhile. lol Now to get the weather to warm a bit and then to the shop. Got as far as unpacking the setup and decided to get a wall mount to elevate it just a bit. As some of you know, I have been seeking dvd's pertaining to sheath making. Never seem to get enough of the education thing and love learning new ideas, tips, and ways to do things, Wondering if anybody has viewed the following dvd's and if so, could you give me your input? First books are by Paul Long. 1. Folder sheaths 2. Leather tips from a Master. 3. Basic pouch sheaths. 4. Advanced blade sheaths. Next group is by John Cohea. 1. Basic rawhide sheath construction. 2. Advanced rawhide sheath construction. And the last one I found by Joe Keeslar 1. Leather sheaths. Any critique/input will be appreciated. Would like to add the better dvd's to the shop. God bless. Many folks seem to have the same feelings, Perry and I am falling in line with them. Another item that came to mind was Tandy's treatment of Springfield leather recently. Apparently he was told, according to what I read on the site, that he will no longer receive items as a preferred dealer/distributor of their goods. He has enough connections that he will not have a problem but as one of, if not the largest, independent Tandy outlet they have ever had. Pitiful way to handle someone that has been with you for such a long time. God Bless. Ray

It is very rewarding to see that so many of us have experienced the same things when dealing with companies today. At least we are not alone and know that others are having to cope with the same issues. Fanninator, the list is much appreciated. So many other suppliers around and always good to learn of more. I had complied a list, some time ago, but as with many things old timers have to deal with, I forgot where it is. lol. Chief, I also remember those days. When I dabbled with ham radio, you could run to the Radio Shack and find the components you needed to complete a project and as time went on I began to notice the dwindling parts supplies and then all of a sudden it became a completed component retailer. In addition, the employees seemed to know nothing about what was going on and interested only in the sale. Cannot remember the other big name in electronics that eventually ended up in the hands of the shack and hated to see them go away as they always had a better selection and better service. When Tandy and the shack came under the same umbrella, some felt that things would get better but that never happened. I am surprised how some of the companies hang on for so long. It is also very true, as quoted from some I know in the Tandy stores, that selling is the tool that is most important, whether items are in stock or not. Some of the regional reps are very lacking and should not hold any position with any company, unless they can learn more about taking care of the needs of the consumer, who, after all, are the most important factor as to whether they succeed or fail. So sad to see so many institutions failing but easy enough to see, from the consumers view, why they are headed that way. Remember the days when we could go to a store and lay hands on everything, purchase on the spot, and take it home without hassle? I certainly do, and find myself wishing for "The Good Old Days". I find it easy to agree with what folks are saying but now lets see if we can get some of the folks to post a listing of suppliers that carry most of the items we need, better leather prices, supplies, tools, etc. You get the picture. It would be nice to be able to develop a listing of the suppliers that can fill our needs, without having to do a hunt and find type scenario. Perhaps some of the suppliers that read or learn of this can be of assistance. It may be a pipe dream but would certainly benefit many of us. God Bless. Ray

It is indeed, sad to see so many negatives about Tandy but seems to be the sign of the times. So many others seem to have gone the same route and one that comes to mind of late is the downfall of RadioShack. There is still some good coming out of Tandy but I do agree that things are changing and not for the good of the folks involved in the craft. One item that is bothersome is when items are advertised and then not available in the stores and long backorder becomes the norm. Tandy is not the only one that has short comings in this area. Very common occurrence today. Tandy was the place to go for many years but now it appears that the drift is forgetting from whence they came. Don't understand the mentality of companies not willing to listen to input from the very folks that make their operations a success. Strange way to do things, in my opinion. The manager of the Tandy store I use is still a good friend and does whatever possible to help me with my selections. Truthful and willing to go the extra mile for his customers so I must say, not everything is sour grapes. I don't purchase nearly as much as in the past as so many other sources are now available and with competitively priced merchandise. Hope they are able to see, one day, that they need to make some adjustments but I have doubts it will happen. Like so many of the big box stores that have come and gone. God Bless. Ray

For those seeking project leather, Tandy is now offering the following: CRAFTSMAN OAK SIDES 3-4 OZ, 16 TO 18 SQ FT. $55.49 OAK-LEAF SIDES 3 TO 4 OZ, 16 TO 18 SQ.FT. $66.49 OAK-LEAF SIDES 6 TO 7 OZ, 16 TO 18 SQ. FT. $89.49 The sides always seemed to be 20-26 sq. ft. but perhaps these were small critters. lol. These are good for miscellaneous projects and for those just getting into the craft. Can be used for nearly anything you desire but may be a lesser quality than some other leathers. Just though I would pass this on for the benefit of you that may not be on Tandy's mailing list. Received this special flyer today and the sale is good until 2/28/15. Hello Bdaz and others. Love doing pyrography on leather and so many options available. I use, and enjoy, the Burnmaster Hawk and Eagle from www.woodcarverssupply.com , if I have that right. I have one of their handles and tips but prefer the Colwood, Razortip, Detailmaster pens by Liesuretime.com, and have a load of them in shop. All of the pens are interchangeable with different controllers, by means of different inexpensive adapters. If anyone is interested, I am now slowing down a bit and am selling the Detailmaster pens first, as I have more of them in the shop so a good place to start. Had offered them as a lot, some time ago but cannot remember if it was here or another site, Lost track and didn't keep good records. lol. As for losing the detail when dye is used, that is a tough one. If the burn is heavy and dark, some of it will be very apparent after dye application and some may disappear. Darker dyes are going to blend with the burns much more than some of the lighter colors available. I usually experiment on some scraps before making my choice of colors and depends on what I would like to accent on the piece. I have done some belts with heavy pyrography and then dyed very dark, ie; chocolate, coffee and the effect was great. I suppose it is a matter of experimentation, to obtain the best results fro the piece you are making. Perhaps others have ideas and methods they have had success with and hope they respond as well. Going to make an attempt to list the Bunkhousetools Embossing Plates and Rolls I have but having so many problems getting around the site lately and not able to get response as to what the problem may be, I will just muddle on and hope I can get it done. This Is a large lot of plates and 10 rolls that will work in their embosser, and other models, except for the very large rolls. All have 1" shaft capability with keyway. All of the items being listed have seen very little use and some no use at all. I think I am more of a collector than fabricator. lol. I PREFER A SINGLE LOT SALE. Hopefully someone will want a large variety of interesting plates and rolls. My total investment in the items is $1145.00 and will sell for $800.00 for all, plus shipping via flat rate Priority or any method you prefer. I will be selling all of my stamping tools, figure and art stamps, discontinued sets of stamping tools and more, in near future. Must get a warm day to get to shop and begin making lists of all the things I have available. 6 or more racks of hand stamps, craftool, Barons, and others, stamps for use in press made of magnesium, couple of boxes of art stamps much more. Plan to sell everything I am no longer using and have not decided if eBay or other medium is best way to go. If anyone has suggestions, I would appreciate the advice.
